Yea. some of the biggest drug dealers, pimps and hookers i know have no problem paying their rent either.

do you want them living on your property ?

my neighbor has a day job... and at night "she" puts on the clear high heals and heads into town.

I would have no problem with a transgender tenant if I was a landlord unless they were a prostitute or engaged in any other illegal activity.

In this case it appears to be a woman in a man's body so he/she decided to dress as a woman.

Since this person is a professional with excellent references I see no problem.

By the way why did she leave her former residence?

Because she is transgender, she probably keeps a low profile and will cause no trouble. You can do far worse like having a large family with a history of substance abuse constantly yelling at each other.

Why should someone's sexual perference bother you? If their credit and income checked out their should be no problem. Unless the problem is you and your narrow minded thoughts!

Why should a person's gender, or transgender have anything to do with their character, or how they conduct themselves.
Obviously this person has an impeccable record, stop being a homophobe, dont take this personal, it's business!

She's a CPA with good credit and references, what more could you ask for? If you have problems, you can always not renew her contract. Also, there is a transgender on the Board of Education (Kim Coco Iwamoto) who is respectable, responsible and a good citizen. Don't judge them all as the 'mahus' on the street corner.

No one should rent from that lady PERIOD! Ignorance breeds discrimination! That person probably has a lot better standings, references, credit and employment than most straight people! If you dont want that kind of renter...I DO!
I rather have a reliable transgendered person than a straight unreliable person anyday!

Tenants who are slugs are like ABC stores in Waikiki.

Most landlords would kill for reliable (pay on time, no loud noise, clean up after themsleves) tenants. I would rent to a transgender, illegal alien, alcoholic/drug addict, lawyer, part-time used car salesman, smoker with pets if he/she is a reliable tenant.

Amen, loganz! "Corrected Statement"'s (first comment) is flawed logically and a disconnect -- definitely poor comprehension reading the article!

AUWE....to you the landlord ! I hope the woman you are referring to is reading this, and takes you to court based on discrimination ! I don't normally approve actions like that, but you are truly biased. You ran all the credit checks, references, job record and got nothing but excellent reports on your potential renter. You were impressed and made the decision to rent to her, you met her and found she was a woman in a mans body. So all of a sudden you are uncomfortable. I truly hope she decides NOT to rent from you, because you would probably give her unrealistic rules to get her to move anyway. You will have a hard time finding a tenant or better yet, forever be plagued by straight non paying, party hearty, hordes of bad tenants.

Why does this lady even feel the need to ask this question? This renter is a human being who works hard for her money and pays her bills on time. What is there to feel "uncomfortable" about?

This only proves that in Hawaii people can still be unrealistic, racist and prejudice. Whether or not this PERSON chooses to be a transgender has nothing to do with the truth. This PERSON still works and pays bills like everyone else. They are not asking you to live with them, but asking you for tenancy. There seems to be some ignorance in all of this on the part of the landlord. LANDLORD beware it seems that you need to realize that you need to get back to reality and brush up on the Fair Housing acts. Maybe you would prefer someone that would sneak in their 10 other family members. Drink in front of your building. Deal drugs or even cook drugs in your unit. I don't know about you but I would prefer the PERSON that is most qualified to afford the unit. What you are asking is 100% DISCRIMINATORY!!! May you be blessed with the ones that are unable to pay you and you need to evict, have fun with that choice!!!

The issue is honesty. I would not have a problem renting to someone who was purple and had three genders if the person was open and up front about it. Why was it that the landlord found out the gender identity later and not at the time of the application? If it was that the landlord didn't ask. no problem. If the potential tenant lied, then that's a problem.

Were you taking applications for a new best friend or a responsible tenant? This woman is to be commended for choosing to be who God made her to be instead of hiding, getting depressed, and commiting suicide or at least not living a happy life, so please enjoy that not everyone is exactly the same as you are, and give this person a chance to be the great, wonderful, responsible person God made her to be. Shame on ya in this day and age to be so unChristian, unaccepting, narrow-minded, and petty. Know her for a month and you'll be exchanging recipes for sure. It's frankly none of your business about her personal life anyway unless she's doing something illegal, which she doesn't appear to be the type who does. Rent her the appartment and enjoy being a respectable person. It's the right thing to do. Ignorance is no excuse to discriminate against another - we're all part of the human race and need to work together to solve the important issues like global warming, water/air/food quality, affordable housing, etc. What you have - is NOT a problem worth wasting time on. Please do what's right. It ALWAYS feels better than doing what's wrong.

Duh, it's because of the orientation. This isn't a hawaiian wanna be or Japanese wanna be. This is a man NEEDING to be a woman. Are you all so blind to the truth that you can't see? Great credit report, but if the tenant doesn't believe in the lifestyle. Well, get over it. It's no difference to the way y'all are acting or responding to this question. Y'all need to get a life and live it to the fullest. Everyone has an opinion like everyone has a okole. Got it? It's just some of your okoles itch and stink and can't wait to share it with others.

the transgendered renter tried to hide it and i can understand why but that dont make it pono either. the "i am to busy" line is weak, if you too busy oh well guess you didnt want it that bad then.
the landlord however, brought it on him/her self by accepting a mail in rental application and then promising the rental without even meeting the individual. the landlord is in this position cuz of his/her own stupidity.
there is wrongs on both side of this story but the landlord was negligent & dumb and the current law is in favor of the rentor who was a lil light in the loafers..
yeah you right!

Amen Sistah! I grow tired of the ignorance and hate that SOME Christians choose to partake in while hiding behind "the book". The hate mongers need to really take a look at the unconditional love Jesus tried to teach us, seems some still just don't get it! Love thy neighbor as thyself for once!
