Can anyone share some info about the fire at Kerns Hardware??????????

Received a call for all people in a 4 mile area to stay inside and keep windows and doors closed..

A shelter was set up in Morgantown if the residents care to go there...

I can see Kerns from my window and it is still burning...not as bad as this morning at around 830 when we first heard the explosions...route 10 going past kerns is currently shut down and there is still smoke coming out. No one can really go near it to really find out more info...sorry. But it does smell really really awful if you happen to open the windows for a second. We dont even have to open the windows to smell it.

The fire started around 4:30 am. It quickly spread through out the building and there was not much the firefighters could do to save the business. It is now 3:15 pm and the building is still smoking.

Fire under control just after 4 pm. Total loss, not much we could do. Fire will burn a couple of days but they have already started demolishing what was left. Thanks to all the residents for feeding and supporting us and neighboring fire/ems companies for your dedication on this long, cold day!! Prayers are with the owners!

I live in Morgantown and take my son to school at Tel Hai, so I pass Kern's every day. There were many, many times we stopped in on the way home from school for things. My son is only 5, but he loved that store and was very upset about the fire. He said he wanted to help the firefighters, so I told him to say a prayer for them. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time. Here's a link to WGAL's site. They have photos taken by residents:

I live right next to the Hardware Store and we just finished our basement, it was so helpful to have it right there and everybody that works there is very helpful and extremely nice. It is such a shame something like this happened to such a great store in the community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I was down in the Richmond VA region when I heard about the fire, it would be good to hear some news about the Kern family and the FF's who fought the blaze. I have spent many years serving the HBFC and know the difficulties associated with cold weather fires!
Volunteer FF and Ambulance crews are awesome!
