Wind turbine to cut cost of water plant
Comments
|
I just set up new utilities for our new home and was excited while talking to Penelec that I may get my electric energy from wind or water resources. After speaking to him about cost he informed me that the cost would be a lot more expensive versus the electric generator. I want to be more environmentally friendly but I can't afford to pay for it! Also, I called WM, IESI and Harrisburg ..something rather and not one would pick up recyclables. I called SHIP borough and asked if we had a recycling center and ~BAM~ nothing.
Why the heck don't we? Why are we so ignorant that we don't have something as basic as recycling set up. I am just very disappointed. |

Depends on what you want... I understand that the residential wind turbines are around 10000 dollars and can be set up by two men. Great piece on C-SPAN the other day about a GA couple who put one up in thier neighboorhood. http://www.northfultontimes.com/news30004/Edu... |

I am sorry- did i not list the 3 major garbage pick up companies that told me they didn't pick up recyclables in MY area? They gave me the suggestion to drive them to the landfill.
Upon hearing that I called SHIP BOROUGH and talked to the SUPERVISOR about the problem. He said that a sister town is setting up a recycling center and is going to see how it goes there before setting one up here. He suggested I all a local guy who will take my tin/metal. He also said that most of the recycled materials the garbage companies take end up in the land fill anyway. Needless to say I was not impressed what so ever with the lack luster view on recycling here, let alone the non-existent service I can get at my house on route 11. So, in response to your comment, A Talking Horse,Yes ~I am calling the right places and asking the right questions. How easy for you to copy and paste a link and think you know everything. |

Dont just give your metal away! Shredder scrap is bringing 8 bucks per 100 pounds - maybe more up your way. I took a few old stoves and lawnmowers to the scrapyard last week and came away with 70 bucks!- In the past...I would have taken that stuff to the dump - and PAID to get rid of it. Im hoping the person who told you recyclables end up in the landfill is tragically misinformed. |

I just can not believe that Ship is that far behind in environmental conservation.(We are a college town too- aren't there programs set up with the school?) I thought recycling was mandatory everywhere at this point.I don't live out in the sticks -I am on a major highway. My home town put up an AWESOME recycling center with big metal bins for glass, tins, plastics and newspaper 10 YEARS AGO. We would just take our stuff there and throw it into the proper bin. It stayed nice and most everyone recycles there.
Ship borough seemed to wash their hands of it and made comments that even if we had a recycling center here that ONLY 70% would recycle anyway. To me -70% was a big number compared to not having a center at all. I too was very disheartened to hear that most recyclables end up in the landfill. I also hope he was misinformed but he is the supervisor, what does that say about who is in charge of the town?!?!?! |
