I came across this in my attic and I thought some of you might be interested in seeing these pictures. As best as I can remember this was given to us at the end of the summer sometime in the early 60s. I scanned them and posted them at: http://campshawnee.googlepages.com (no www)
Don, your yearbook is from the 1965 season...the only season I ever worked at Shawnee...I was the senior counselor for Bunk 32....so much fun to see all that is on this site plus the yearbook...I have been googling names just to see what I can find and where they are now..........thanks for the memories!

Greetings Camp Shawnee Alumni !!!! It has been so long since I've spoken to anyone that I don't know where to start. The summer of 1972 was one of the greatest of my youth. Being a junior counselor and creating unbelievable memories was amazing !! I haven't read all of the posts but I know that Curtis LeMay and I were spoken about. I Wade Reynolds and Walter Rose and the Epstein family and Debbie Bennet. Remember the outrageous mudslide day. Everyone in camp was muddy from head to toe. Anyone that remembers me, please e-mail me at [email protected] FYI I still speak to Jeff Nemeth from the Silver Lake days.

OMG...for some reason I decided tonight to search for Camp Shawnee and look what I found. The google page posted by Don Morgenstern that has the pics of all the counselors and kids from the 1965 summer.....and there I was...Bunk 5, Senior Counselor. And Peggy Usrey which i believe was one of the tallest female counselors there. If anyone reading this was there in 1965, given me a gingle at [email protected] I was the rifle instructor for that summer!!

Interesting - I have the same bunk picture in a box in my basement. I'm the one on the far end on the left. went to Shawnee the for five years in the early 60s. Nice to know others remember the camp. It was pretty progressive for those days with go carts, horseback riding and diving (OK - a trampoline we jumped off from the dock at the waterfront until the pool was built.

Hey fellow Shawnee campers:
I finally found this official bunk photo (circa 1961). Picture links below

I am on the end of the bench on the right. There is Ted Bland (Sr) on the left. Hi Ted (jr) I remember you, both you and your dad were great guys. I guess not too many people remember me, I was usually out in the woods catching snakes, or at the stables, and following Joe Fobes around.
And just in case you have not gone back to the first couple of pages of this site
HERE is a whole album of PHOTOS FROM THE FALL OF 2006.
COPY THIS LINK TO VIEW

ITS A TOUR OF 90 PHOTOS. the quad, mess hall, bunks, lake, creek, etc..even JOE FOBES... ENJOY
I was there in October, took lots of pictures of the entire camp. Even visited with Joe Fobes, who still is the caretaker for the property. The Jewish camp is in disrepair, and has not been used for years. It may actually go up for sale soon.
The stables and coral are gone, but the building is still there used for storage and about ready to fall down. The place is full of old trailers.
The lake is filling in a bit but the Quad is still recognizable.
I was one of the original campers back in 1961, only 6 years old at the time. Kept going until it just got too built up, and the year the Rec hall got struck by lightning was my last year.

These songs from Camp Shawnee just popped into my head:
Late last night when we were all in bed
Ginny & Bob were necking in the shed
Along came Ted, and this is what he said,
"There'll be a hot time in the old town tonight!"
FIRE, FIRE, FIRE!
Johnny Appleseed:
Oh the Lord is good to me, and so I thank the Lord
for giving me, the things I need,
the sun, the rain and the appleseed
The Lord is good to me
Amen

I was a life guard at Camp Shawnee summer of 1976, prior to my senior year at college. The camp was at that time for underprivaledged girls from Jersey City, New Jersey. Edmund, thanks so much for posting the pictures, it brought back such memories, albeit considerably different than the early 70's or 60's camp Shawnee.

Hi Alan, I remember you. I guess we were some of the youngest of the original Shawanee campers back in 61. I stopped going the year the rec hall got struck by lightning. Do you remember the Saxon and Norman color war? Just in case you dont remember me, I am the jerk who was up in the rafters. I am glad to learn you alive and well.\\

This is amazing ! I went and found some of the photos from camp Shawnee from the past and now. What a blast that time was. I remember the mud slide in 72 (I think) capture the flag, swimming with the paddle boards. So many have faded unfortunately. If there are any other pictures out there I would love to see them. Anyone can email me at [email protected] I would greatly appreciate it. To a time when kids could still run free, no cell phones or Internet and video games. What a great time to be alive !!! jimmy Napoliello
