Have you given any thought to what you will do if, 2 years down the road, Southco closes the Honeoye Falls facility?

Yes, actually we have. As I said in the beginning, he "MAY BE TRANSFERRING"... the reason I started this topic was to find out as much as I could to help us make that decision.

I don't want to get caught in the middle of anything here, but any information regarding the Davenport machines at Brandywine would be appreciated. Have you heard anything about Davenport people relocating to Honeoue Falls?

I don't believe many will relocate at all, in any position. At most I would think you might have 2-3 turning guys interested. The guy that started this forum quit today so he doesn't need to know anything about pizza places any longer, but I'll check back time and again if you have any other questions.

as to your comment about HF closing two years down the line. I would doubt it highly considering the problems they are already experiencing here.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it. I'm surprised to learn he quit. I would guess he kissed off Southco's severance package by doing so.

Do you know any of the Davenport people personally? Mark Kleinschmidt in particular? A little over a year ago, Mark and a co-worker spent a week or two in New York.

A few of the jobs we ran (and the machines they ran on) were sent to Brandywine, so I was thinking those jobs (and machines) might be coming back to NY.

You mentioned problems at Brandywine. Do those problems have anything to do with inferior products being made in China?

I know almost everyone in the Davenport area, but I haven't heard of anyone currently in the Davenport area that is thinking of relocating. There might be someone who previously ran Davenports considering the move. We are losing about 2-3 people a week, and several people have received or have put in for Bridgeport jobs. They have informed us to put our names on a list if we were interested in HF positions. The list is to be completed by the 28th and they we will have a meeting to find out info on the positions. I will be able to tell you more then, so far I think only about 10 people are interested.

Thanks for the info, Turningman.

We went through the same thing when Southco closed our facility in Victor, NY. Your HR man paid us a visit asking for people interested in Brandywine positions. Three guys went down for a week, but no one relocated.

Have you heard anything about production\manufacturing problems in Shenzhen, China?

Through the grapevine we've heard a little bit about quality problems in China, we've also heard that our own China facilities don't want components from China, and that they are having a hard time finding outsource suppliers in Asia. Most of the places, that I hear about outsourcing our primary operations, are in the states, and we were told the main reason we're closing is to get closer sourcing to China. I guess Chicago and Maryland are closer to China. I can't say that I've heard anything about a specific facility or process, have you.
What are you being told about the closing? How are they saying HF will be affected? We were told by the big boss that most of HF's assembly ops would be moved to Mexico once that facility is functional and that the plan is to turn HF into a more highly skilled facility.

While on my way to Geneseo the other day I passed some signs in favor of Wind Power.
I would like to know more about this. How do people in Lima feel about it?
In view of the pressure to be more "green" maybe it is a good idea. I have been near some of the new windmills and they aren't the old noisy things that they used to be.Do birds and other wildlife eventually adjust to them? It seems to me that the birds have been here way before we humans were and will adjust to just about anything. We are already changing the face of wildlife by building houses etc.Case in point the black bear passing through here last week.On the other hand are windmills just another wet dream of a few money mad extremest? Is windpower the way of the future?
Maybe it is the answer to some of our energy problems. I would love to hear what you have to say. PS-Can we keep this nice and have a real discussion and not a p------contest?
I'm really interested in what mature, intellegent people have to say.

I can only relay what the Davenport people hear and think about the situation. Southco tried to unload the HF Davenport division a few years ago, so the Davenport people are cynical and have a tendency to disbelieve anything the Southco managers say.

There's talk of adding a 3rd shift to the Davenports and of 8 machines coming from Brandywine.

While it may be true that Southco needs to shorten its supply routes, we believe their ultimate goal is to shift all manufacturing over-seas because of the tremendous cost savings (wages\benefits\health insurance). It may take a few years, but we think the HF facility will be turned into a highly skilled cow pasture.

We hear you guys are experiencing a bit of sabotage due to Southcos habit of booting people out the door in waves. We had a bit of it when they closed the Victor, NY facility, but not as much as I thought there would be.
