a former player for the football team states......the band has shown more improvements over the last years than the football team, they run the same plays....they need to get a new playbook and a new offense corr. Why throw a pass play to the weak side of the field? Why run on 1st and 2nd down every time? Why not run the triple option, they run no option

It's all about the studs up front. If you have them it doesn't matter what play you run! Honaker tigers have a bunch of weak Momas boys up front who want their moma to yell at the coach to let them play more and that way they won't have to earn their playing time. Quit whinning about the play selection and encourage those over sized momas boys to step up and play a mans game. When Honaker had the studs no one was complaining about play selection; they were singing praises. Honaker has more size than anyone we play and the smallest hearts (BALLS) than anyone we play. Mommy take your baby home, because you are the reason Honaker can't play football!

also as an ex player i have to say that in many ways this year teams looks like many others doug has had. excluding the heath miller era. the line has poor technique and he plays only the kids, whose parents show up at practice or at his office. the best players are very often not in the right postion or not on the field at all.
The last 3-4 years the line has been very soft. just a bunch of whiners. also many of them have very little respect for authority. that can be see by how often they miss school or treat others and parents. most of them think everyone owes them something.

I think Doug should take out all Seniors for the rest of the year and focus on next year.

I think that only a few of the players Doug has do have any respect for authority and Doug didn't make them that way. Clintwood averaged 31 football players out 5 days a week for Captains practice and weight lifting all summer long. Honaker has almost 100 more students than Clintwood, but football is their number 1 sport. Powell Valley and Gate City had even better numbers. Doug stated that on a good day Honaker had 12 to 15. If you want to win you have to put in the effort. The line does make the initial contact, however that's all they think they have to do and release their blocks and our backs get killed. Doug should let the backs block for those linemen so they would have an opportunity to see how it feels to get hit from every direction and look up to see those who were supposed to be blocking for you standing around. I personally do not agree with with the type defense the tigers run, because the linebacker run support isn't up to the 4-4 defense. Honaker has alot of sophmores and juniors that need to make a statement with their dedication and work ethic however as it looks they instead look to be in the same old rut! They need a team leader in the worst kind of way!

leadership starts with the face of the program. that would be doug. a coach has to mold his players the way he expects them to play. i have seen it for over 20 yrs. most honaker teams always come up short on discipline. maybe it is time for new life in the program.

its hard to say whose fault losing is. first, you have the coaches who can't motivate the players the way they used to be able to. next, you have the players who don't want to work hard. and finally, you have the parents who insist the coaches don't be too hard on their kids or it may hurt their feelings. team sports are excellent ways to prepare kids for how life smacks them in their face, but when you don't have an opportunity to illustrate that during practice friday night doesn't really matter. solution = give the coach 4 years to whip these guys into shape his way, the way he had it in college (they don't know what hard work is on a real team) because when u have talent (heath miller era) its easy, but when u don't thats when u have to work harder. Also, the parents have to leave the field and stop babying their kids, if they want to win they have to give total control to the coach because thats his job, don't criticize the chef if you're messing with the recipies. and if he doesn't turn it around to a hard nosed team with a winning attitude he should step down
