I'll be more than happy to respond and comment about the Chief of Police in Honaker!! It's nice to know that we have a man like him that upholds the law and stands up for what he believes in. Also, it seems to me he has a department that does their job in upholding the law too.

well i heard he runs off all the good police officers he has. Everyone he ever has had working for him complains about it. Look who he has working for him except the sergeant. Nobody's! little scronny officers that couldnt fight there way out of a paper bag and hasnt even been to the academy! LOL

my good person, you need to work on your grammar before posting something you would like for others to read and take serious.

It is apparent that someone is not a happy person in Honaker, Va.
First let me just comment on the hear-say aspect of the posting. Hear-say is not worth a good spit into the wind. It is usually fabricated, embellished and most of the time, just out and out mendacity!
To the person who believes that the Chief runs off good officers. Well, I would have to question the good part. Maybe, just maybe, the Chief expects his officers to have a high degree of honor and integrity.

Now, I believe that the Chief is doing a very good job considering the little support he may get from the council. The problem appears to be that some people would like to be treated special, and when they are not, it is "fire the Chief" or file a complaint on the Chief and or his officers, in the hopes that they will get support from the council.

What is really needed is the support from the community as well as the council. Then we would show a marked improvement in the town as a whole.

I see somethings has not changed, back when my father was the Chief he had the same problem with the Council.
No support at all. When I started In 1982 we had 2 cars, a 1974 and 1978 Plymouth Fury. The Council let us buy them from the State Police auction.
They both had over 100,000 miles on them. Just worn out.
We had to buy our own uniforms, gun and duty belt
and ammo. They fave us nothing. Sound like Chief Hess has the same people we had.
I was told but don't really know that guys get hired on and stay just long enough to get hired by a better Dept. The pay Is not that good. That Is just what I was told last summer. But It sounds like he has his hands full with that Council.

In response to the character of Chief Hess, we are lucky to have someone to stand up for what he believes in and for what he expects from his department personnel. Good Job Chief Hess!!! And to reply to the Citizen from Bristol, Tennessee: I believe most scronny officers start somewhere, it may be with a local police department, county department or state police. Lets just hope that whereever they start - they are smart enough to remain employed a year from now.

Chief i heared went almost 2 years without writing a single ticket! Im sure he super swamped all the time in Honaker.....and i heared that when they used to turn in reports that almost all the time that they were lucky to have 20 tickets combined with all the officers. Sounds like he is doing a great job! He needs to concentrate on one job or the other.....someone that knows told me that when he does do the police thing that he just sits in the office and plays on the computer.....but i dont know im just sayin.

I have been gone for a longtime. I went into the Navy then moved to Ohio and joined the force here.
I was just saying how things were back then.
I am glad to see they have new cars now and the best council the town has ever had.
I have only been back home once, back In 05.
I hope things stay good now. It use to be rough.

Does anyone even know him personally. Hes lived there all his life. U would think that residents of Honaker would at least know something about him? or is he that invisible?

He has a military background. He is very private about his personal life and he takes his job 100% serious. How many of you would put up with the mess and the overhead for the small salary offered? He does it to help the community and to make a living. You would have to like it to continue. Maybe someone should ask him the questions instead of asking the community. From what ive read i havent seen one bad thing posted so he must be the person for the job. If hes not prove it!!!

Do you live there? or r u stirring in something just to harm him or his family? If you live there i see why u would want 2 know if not give the man a break or go do the job yourself.

He is very stern and does a good job with what he has to work with. He works for the council more than the community. If they would let up he could do so much more. Crime rate good shape. The town actually is in good shape for the size. It could be so much worse so let him be.
