Unless the NRA pulled the TRIGGER, I see no connection. It's ignorant people like you that TRY to make a connection.

I guarantee you gangs and drugs were involved.

I also guarantee the kid killed was another "honor" student.

Their all honor students.(NOT!!!)

Of course the NRA is responsible. They are the reason guns are so available in this country. A gun has no other purpose but to take life. Yes, drugs may have been involved in this death, but many other people are killed by guns who have no connection to drugs. I'm 49 years old, and I'm no coward. That's why I've never owned or fired a gun. In my view, only cowards need guns.

Guns are like golf clubs, ball bats etc, There are several shooting sports ignorance is the only excuse for that comment you made if you don't know any thing about firearms how can you comment on them?

I teach in the district that the child resided in. It is easy for those in glass houses(or wealthy neighborhoods) to throw stones at others. We are loosing children in neighborhoods like this all over the city. Condescending comments(Christine) and blaming are not solutions. How many of you that wrote comments are part of the solution? How many of you are taking an active role in your community and those communities less fortunate? Instead of making ignorant racial commments, become a mentor to a child in need.

What the H_LL does the NRA have too do with this.
You have no clue as to what you are saying.

This sounds more like gang issues, But do not through the NRA into this. The NRA did not put the gun into the hands of this/these cowards that shoot people at will. Most likely the guns were either stolen or purchased illegally.

You need to get you facts straight.
The NRA is not responsible for these acts by these cowards. The NRA did not put the gun in these cowards (Shooters) hands.
Tell us how the NRA is responsible. Please, tell me.

Now before you sound off, I am not an NRA member. There are issues I have with the NRA and for that I do not belong to the NRA.
I grew up with firearms. My grandfather and father taught me at an early age how to respect firearms. " and before you sound off again" I'm not a hunter either. Never have, never will. But I do own firearms. I do competition shooting. I also would not hesitate to use a firearm in defense of my family, home or life. You say cowards only need guns. Tell that to the person who breaks into your house in the middle of the night.

Do the laws need to be changed regarding gun control, Yes, what should the government do? well that's the million dollar question.
There is no perfect gun laws. Those who use guns for criminal purpose will always be able to obtain them legally or illegally.

You choose not to own firearms, that is your choice.

The Fleming family is well know in Chicago Heights to be involved in drug trafficing.

The area where this happened is called Beacon Hill. There is nothing but drug dealing in that area.

Some years ago a Fleming girl was shot to death in a drive by in that same town. She was a dope dealer.

The police won't have to look far for answers. They know the Fleming's too.

The answer is simple!

Get a job, raise your children with morals and values. As I have said before on numerous occassions, children learn what they live!

The excuse "I'm poor" does not work. MILLIONS of people survived the Great Depression and raised their children with little to nothing. They instilled VALUES in their children!

My comment was not racial, it was acccurate. The news always depicts "honor students" being killed.

It's a load of crap and you as an "educator" know damn well its CRAP!

It's always the blame game. If you have no respect, no sense of responsibility and no values, chaos emerges. It's not the NRA, its not the City of Chicago, it's not GEROGE BUSH. ITS PARENTS OR LACK THEREOF!

All of you people who blame the NRA need to back to school and study your history. See, there's this thing called the Constitution, in this Constitution there is what's called the Bill of Rights, one of these rights is "The Right to Bear Arms". The NRA's sole purpose is to protect this right granted by our founding fathers. So maybe our founding fathers should held responsible for this mess, maybe people should contact their senators and congressmen to start a petition for a constitutional amendment to have this right repealed. Might be a start.
For the record, I am not a member of the NRA nor do I own a gun, just my opinion.

Exactly. Laws won't keep guns out of the hands of criminals. There'll still be a black market and law-abiding citizens won't be able to protect themselves. Check out countries who have abolished guns...the crime rate has gone up tremendously.

It's tragic whenever someone is killed, especially when it's so close to home. Saturday, it was that 17-year-old kid. Tomorrow it could be you or I. I don't feel safe living here anymore. I don't know how to fix things. If we can't teach our kids to stay away from violence and respect each other, do we need to call in the army to enforce peace? Don't know.

christine,

well said! you should run for public office. my children went to h.s. in that area where the shooting occured. I KNOW what goes on in that neighborhood and who's responsible. Unless the parents get control of the situation at an early age, this sort of thing will continue. "educator", i empathize with you, but it's a losing battle.

I think it's sad that we are loosing our children it has to be a better way of life. The first thing for sure is parent's need to be in our children life 100%. That means go to your childrens schools, see what your child is up to. A lot of parent's don't get involved in school projects period.
