So....What? Hasn't anyone been walking around 154th street and noticed anything??? Like a "Wasteland"???? Like maybe if you have some ambition, you might have said something in your brain, like...."I wish the city would fix up and/or buy this block and develop it"? Or......maybe someone has said....."I wish our kids had a pool to swim in", or....I wish there was a downtown to go to"

What wasted apathy. Or.....Maybe I'm wrong here. Maybe there are actually groups who actually talk, plan and meet and propose ideas on how to help the town somehow, through ways people could, by organizing, farmers Markets, planning a few festivals, beginning an Arts center. So....Who's doing that? I'm sure someone is. I couldn't begin to think Harvey is on track with Ford City.
Anyone out there notce anyone doing any of these things or more?
And....You know....There are tons of grants for "Blighted Areas" from State governments that citizens can write.
So...Tell me something good.....

Mayor Kellog is doing something. Have you walked to 151st and Robey? With the work of the city of Harvey, YMCA was able to get James McHugh to Joint Venture with Huggins/Riteway to place a state of the art HUD 808, 211 senior housing. McHugh's has Superintendent in house responsible for senior housing and municipal develpment. "McHugh wil soon be a brand name." states Donald E. Haughton. "If the developers in Harvey their way McHugh should be able to employ and contract local business to provide services. Harvey pushed our developer and companies to provide the best product possible."

166 & 174 W 151st St. Stop by and see Ms Theresa and Bryant or Mrs. Irene and Kieth who are doing a phenomenal job caring for the residents of Harvey.

A senior citizen home. OK that's all good but what about getting real business in town. This is something that hasn't happen and probably won't. Whatever is being built in Harvey will not bring the tax base we need to make this the productive town it once was. We need those connections with the big retailers and big business corporations that generate big bucks. We all know none of this will happen because the town is not run properly. The crooks have drained the city dry and will leave Harvey the worse south suburb in IL. With crime so high no one will consider Harvey home for there business except senior homes, day care, churches, and liquor stores. CN would help but they won't because they know what's goin on with Kellogg and the crooked, too much corruption and if CN got involved whatever money they gave Harvey would end up missing and in the pockets of the crooked politicians.

You're right again Bill. When are these people going to learn that they all need to "rally" now for change to raise up a "tide" that will flow up and through the next election, cleansing out & bringing in new administrations and police forces? The time is now. Start early and get the interest up with Facts of "What Harvey can be"
People will listen, but Bill.....Nobody seems to hear us. Where's the Church Leaders? Seems like They would want to help the citizens and children feea and be safe in the neighborhoods of Harvey.
With that new "street level" feature of google maps, Harvey doesn't look very run down to me at all in 80% of the neighborhoods. Have you seen it Bill? But...on 154th street, as I "drove around" I mapped out 67 vacant lots, and that's withoput counting the vacant buildings for sale. If these people would educate themselves on what to look for, and how to propose growth, make plans etc.,they'd find that Harvey is a clean "palette." Only trouble is the crooks. So...again....Like you said a long time ago. Rally, Protest and spread the word.

Ambrose....Where y at/ You never answered me about your Kentucky question you asked.
Then..I asked you a few questions.
What else is going on in Harvey? What's up with over 65 vacant lots on 154th street alone?
Who owns them?
Can you find out?
Are you doing anything to help?
It doesn't look like it from "google maps" street view setting taken last summer.
What's up with the foreclosures & what's the Mayor & city council doing about it?
If you're going to give us some good/great Harvey news...Come out with it.
Got a link on current news and projects the mayor is working on?
Is he?
What's the city's 2020 outlook plan look like?
Or...Have they even made one?

You know you can't handle the truth. Presently Harvey is suffering from the same politcal performance that is plaguing the country. Developer went into Harvey and failed to deliver on the Dixie Mall. Mayor Kellogg is politically unable to make a decision to spur is community because the Alderman refuse to work together.

A development team has been put in place to work on 147th and Dixie Hwy but they are unable to function. They have the tools but do not know how to make them work. Their big fear is that someone will get all the fame and glory. In the mean time nothing is going on but death and Kelloggs' Dog and Pony shows. Dixmoor mayor will be redveloped and growing before the Kellog can unlock the fear gripped board to move backwards as they have for the last twenty five years.

Self sustainable senior oasis will be developed in Harvey and Dixmoor in the comming years. Transportation Centers will be designed to help the community function as a corridor for the Southern Suburbs. The mayors has challenges educating the Alderman and community on development direction. Capital has been funneled from Springfield but Kellogg is not able to have savvy staff to work with minority contractor at this time so the funding will nost like be returned at the end of the fiscal year. We tried.

What development is going on in Lexington Kentucky? Home of American Racism, and social racism? It does not look any better than Harvey. You left one hell hole to go live in another hole. When you come back you will see that the southern suburbs are on the rise.

It's clear that no progress will be made unless Kellogg gets his credit for masterminding the whole idea. What happen to the regular way of doing business when the contracter makes his proposal, the city approves, then you build without other political infleunce. Using people connected to Kellogg won't help that's why Dixie Square never got started. This dude has been nothing but bad news for Harvey and the people used very bad judgement by giving him another 4 years.

Lexington is great. I like Louisville better, but I don't consider Lexington a racist city. That's also an opinion formed from listening to all socioeconomic levels of Blacks. Both cities have low crime rates.

None at all. Just a lot of complaining but no one who will voice what Harvey needs. I think for now the town is doomed until new blood comes in and makes good business moves.

Does anyone know if there are any clubs like ELKS,ROTARY,MOOSE, MASONS......Anything "Community Based" that "Actually "....DOES ANYTHING to educate these little wannabe gang kids? Also, are there any similiar organizations that approach and push city hall for progress?
I counted over 68 vacant lot spaces on 154th street alone from park to page! Geeesch! Aren't there any "buyout proposals" to purchase hese areas and attract infill development? Whatever happened to those "CONDOS" the Mayor was touting years ago?
Is there still Basketball leagues?
When is there going to be a pool?
How come no citizens even seem to notice that their town has no shopping center (like 154th street used to be!!,
no community POOL
No restaurants
No movie theater
No pizza parlors
Don't they CARE ABOUT THE FUTURE???

No B-Ball leagues. Harvey twisters a wrestling team is pretty good and of couse the Harvey colts are still in effect. Forget about a Harvey pool. When they had a chance to repair at minimal cost the city declined. 154th street has about 4 barber shops and a few so called community based type business in place. The more I think about it the more I am convinced those in charge have no idea on how to bring productivity in town and merly hold these positions to better themselves. I really don't like going to other towns spending my money helping there tax base. I use to be able to everything I needed in Harvey. Well those days are long gone and probably will never come again.

So, what can I do to help Bill? Who else is interested except you & I? Does the Mayor know about this site?
Maybe we can invite him to comment. How about an alderman or two?
Preacher?
