At there yesterday . Decent beef sandwhich , very good fries , Nathans hot dogs r garbage in my opinion. Big problem I had is I was the only one there and had two wait 10-15 minutes For two beefs fries and a dog. Super slow.... Not a bad place, nice inside but I'll stick with mickeys in tinley or pops in Palos.

Tried Lucky's, since it's owned by the same people who own Oliver's Sports Bar and Grill, thought it would have to be good. How disappointing it turned out to be. Sorry Lucky's, no plans to go back again. Your cream of chicken soup tasted funny, like no cream of chicken soup I've had before. Oliver's is soooo good, thought it would be the same, sadly it wasn't even edible. The beef sandwiches were even worse. The beef had the same flavor as Arbys beef which I had always attributed to to likely not being a real beef product. Lucky's beef is sliced really, really thin so unless you look close you don't notice right away that it doesn't look like real beef slices. There's no grain or texture to it. And once again, it has that strange flavor that Arby's beef has. Whatever that might be, it's no roast beef. Stick with Portillo's or Mickey's if you're in the area.
If you're gonna make it, add some of Olivers basics and you'll have a winner.

Love Oliver's so figured we would try Lucky's. Just had gotten food from there for the 1st time. Burgers dry, no taste, very little lettuce and onion, no tomatoes. The fries were over cooked and hard. Really was glad to see another business open in Oak Forest but we will not be going back. Not a far ride to Johnny's Wee-nee Wagon, food much better there.

What is going in there? We tried it shortly after they opened and were pretty happy with the food and price as far as fast food goes. Who's running it now? Initially when it opened Scott Burkhardt's (sp?) son worked there and it looked like he was the manager.

I think you just answered a question in the back of my mind. Why this business was lucky enough to get a $10k facade improvement grant from the city, shortly after opening.

But ......... were broke.

The question that has always been in the back of my mind is how they could rebuild the place within a few feet of a state highway.

it was grandfathered in. They didn't build a new structure. They renovated the old.

Did they really get the 10 grand from the city? Is that how Scott Burkhardt's kid got the job or was that part of the deal?

I don't know what they got from the city. I just know the original structure had to remain or building that close to Cicero wouldn't be allowed. That is what was said in the paper when Luckys announced they were opening.

Wonderful. And I suppose it was just by sheer coincidence that Burkhardt's son was one of the first employees at the restaurant?! Sheesh!

My family and I have tried Lucky's several times and won't be back. We find the prices a bit steep for what you get and then they can't get our carryout orders correct.$.50 for red sauce,$.40 for peppers, and we get home and neither are on there. We order a dipped beef sandwich, it says dipped on the receipt, but we get home and it's bone dry. We order yet another sandwich with green peppers and red sauce and when we open it up, it has mustard and raw onions on it instead.???

I don't want to have to open every single sandwich if I go through the drive-through or pick up an order and I don't have to at other places, so we'll go to those places instead. Too many mishaps at Lucky's.

The food is nothing to write home about. cold by time i got home. The kids working the counter were rude and way to busy talking to each other. keep in mind the place is empty. You shouldnt have to interupt their conversation to get service after standing there for five minutes. Then to act as if i am bothering you. Forget luckys, ill go outside of o.f.

Going outside of OF is not a bad idea now that the admin raised the sales tax.
Even local businesses think its a bad idea.

The Facade Improvement funds are given to businesses to give them incentives to dress up or improve their phsicaly location. Each business who wants to do work on their establishment submits bids to the Economic Advisory Committee (EAC). If approved, the city gives the establishment 1/3 of the cost to do the work up to $10,000. Lucky's did much more than $30,000 worth of improvements so they qualified for the whole $10,000. It had nothing to do with who is working at that establishment or any of the others who have qualified for this grant. The program has been successful in revitalizing decaying businesses and helping the city improve the overall appearance.

I feel this is a good program and shows that the city is proactive in the best interest of the businesses. To say Burkhardt's son working there has anything to do with their receiving a grant is just wrong. Should he be required to seek employment out of the city that he lives in? That is just silly.

With all the people - young and old - I find it odd that Scotty Burkhardt's son is the one who gets the job. From my POV, it's political pure and simple. From the comments on topix, the staff there is pretty incompetent so they did not get hired based on skill.
