19-year-old man shot to death in Chicago Heights

A 19-year-old Chicago Heights resident was found shot to death on a sidewalk in the south suburb Saturday night.

You live a thug life and eventually it catches up to you. You either end up in jail,on drugs or dead. It seems that the black community should reach out to these kids before they become thugs. In my opinion, it starts with the parents and then the community.

Hes dead, so what. I wont respect someone if they died because they were involved in a gang or whatever. Every stupid killing destroys communities and property values in the area. Black people gotta get it together.

Before any judgement (which is only God's job) is passed, know the facts!! This had nothing to do with race, gangs or drugs... it was just plain ignorance- which can happen anywhere. That boy shot my cousin for talking to his girlfriend. Just plain ignorance! One man dead, another in jail; 2 families with more heartache! Stop watching Hollywood movies thinking every black man is a crackhead or thug. We got our problems but who don't, who is it shooting up their school, who is it blowing up churches...(I don't mean to point the finger but it aint us) but nobody publically analyzes or stereotypes that kind of crime, do they. But something tragic like so occurs in the ghetto and "Oh, Black people this, Black people that!" The world is messed up right now and the only way to correct it, is to stop pointing fingers and saying "they" and start saying "we". before people judge on race take this bit of info for what it's worth. First I wanna say R.I.P. Jo-Jo and Tuffy. 2 senseless cases of violence and another example of young black males erasing each other off the planet. We already got the deck stacked against us when we born into this world we gotta stop it. Alot of the people commenting on this recent act that are talking from a blind mans point of view, are not even from the area and don't even know what Chicago is all about let alone Chicago Heights. I've been here all my life so i will give you narrow minded people a quick rundown. We have the poorest school system in the nation bay a long shot, especially in the black community also there is nothing to keep our kids out of the streets as far as Programs to keep them off the streets and the ones that we do have are not advertised in our community. The Police are corrupt as any on the planet, armed with AR-15's instead of shotguns and couldn't find snow in winter, let alone a killer in the city. There are at least 3 to 5 shootings a night in the chicagoland area. Yes it's true we as black people have to lift each other out of this hell on earth we are living in most of the killings are black males 17-25 which is our future people if we keep it up there won't be any left and we can't replace a generation nor can we raise one without fathers. These families are hurting for no reason at all. The saying goes "I'd rather die for something than live for nothing." Well Tuffy, and Jo-Jo lived for something and died for nothing. You make sure there seeds change the world.

Lucki, I first would like to start off by praying for these two young men's families. Lucki your attack on the Police is one of the problems with the youth today. The reason they are armed with AR15's is due to the thugs who are armed with assault rifle's. I honestly think if this country is to become unified it starts with adults teaching the kids morales, the importance of education and that gun, drugs, gangs are not the way of life. Maybe if our generation turned off the rap music and picked up a book they would give up the thug life. Do you think these Rap stars care about any kids? Hell no they do not. Maybe If parents stop blaming the Police for setting up there kids and start accepting they have done wrong then the kids would not hate the police so much. i don't call the police for shit. because they don't do nuthin but serve and protect themselves. no it's not all the police. Have you ever encountered Chicago Heights Police. They are the most corrupt cops in the burbs, them Harvey, and Robbins. I'm not blaming the police but instead of them helping situations they make it worse. By beating the hell out of us black men for asking them a question. Planting guns and drugs on our people to make their arrest stats look good. You can take up for the pigs all you want but by you saying this i know 2 things about u. 1. U can't possibly be a black man because if you were, u would understand the bullshit the police put us through on a daily basis. the second thing i know about you is that you cannot possibly live in or anywhere around the hood, or you would understand exactly where i'm coming from. I see these people everyday. Listen, I know Chicago. In Chicago, most of the gangs are BLACK, thats the rough truth. In other cities, there are hells angels, or asian gangs for example. I have no respect for gangs, because they do truly destroy communities. Take a stroll down Oak Lawn in Dallas, youll see what I mean.

Take a look at Oak Lawn, and then compare it to Oak Cliff. Oak Cliff has gangs and a large black population. I know that there are alot of smart black people, but they stay away from the all black areas and move to better neighborhoods.

actually there are far more latino gangs than black organizations in chicago

there are only about 9 different black organizations compare to around 50 hispanic gangs
