Man dies after Midlothian cops use Taser on him - Chicago Breaking News

A Riverdale man died early this morning after being subdued by police with a Taser following a traffic stop, authorities said.

Guess he did not want to go back to Ohio to serve out his jail term. If the reports are accurate then the use of the taser was more then justified. I hate it when the Southtown gives only part of the headline. With so many units involved, and an injury to an officer, there is little doubt. But what exactly was he swallowing and what else was this guy on besides pot?

What a " shocking " story. I hope the cops that got hurt will be alright. Maybe we need a standard on taser's. No more than 10 shocks in a row ( 15 if they are really big)

eagleman, I say run into an upset cop and he takes everything personally, and you get tasered 15 times, there have been cases where tasers were used on pregnant woman, children under the age of ten in a public school, disabled people, people having seizures, and various other things where a taser should have never been used, in this case it was justified, as he was running from the police, a felon and was on drugs. I can give example after example where they were abused, and just as many where they were used the way they were supposed to be used. Do not make fun of a dangerous weapon, that, if used properly, help save lives, if abused in the way you described, would harbor law suits and bans on them. taser should be treated in the same way a gun is, in fact, in order to have one you need a FOID card.

I do understand what you are saying and you are right in that I made a poor joke. I HAVE run in to police with attitudes or god complex or whatever, but since I am not a complete fool ( feel free to add a joke or two here) I know better than to confront the officer. I just get out of the situation and if I feel I was in the right I report the officer or I tell it to the judge. An example, I was going a little to fast on I80. I was pulled over by a state trooper who then spent the next 5 minutes yelling and screaming at me and telling me what she was going to do to me. She was not professional, her uniform was so dirty I could tell you what she had for lunch. She was called away before she could write me a ticket but I reported her. I told the officer in charge that yes I was speeding but her manners were not professional and the condition of her uniform. 2 hours later I got a call from the head of her district. He appologised to me for her behaviour and told me that it would never happen again. I didn't confront her, so I didn't give her any reason to elevate the situation. I am sure most of us have had a bad situation we could talk about, but I'll bet most of us with more brain cells than a rock could also give plenty of positive stories about the police. The story had this person, first running, then resisting arrest to the point that several officers were injured. He was tasered, then after complaining about pain was taken for medical help right away. First impression of the situation is that the police handled things the right way. Even though the taser is supposed to be non-lethal, when you put an electrical charge into a body, bad things can happen.

Tasers do in fact kill people. People are not cattle, they are people and there are other ways to restrain people besides putting electric shocks
their bodies. Tasers can and are used as a form of torture and should NOT be used on people

The man swallowed the drugs in an attempt to hide. He is a Felon breaking probation.

He choked to death swallowing the drugs while resisting arrest. It is not like Old Yeller was shot. A felon died committing a felony bringing more crime to the village. Bye Bye.
