Heard that Walmart bought the truck depot on Harlem south of 103rd and will put in a Super Walmart and Sams Club. This should be a village tax enhancer unless deals were worked out that would give big tax breaks to this super-corporation. anyone heard anything?
Interesting

Wondering., why don't they just buy up the property across the street in Bridgeview? They already have part of the building there. Maybe that is why we got the new Firehouse that was put not by the houses?

Apparently the Yellow Truck property iis big enough to handle two huge stores with parking. There's a lot of property east of Harlem

I think we could use a Super Walmart. The Bridgeview location always seems to be busy. A lot of people grocery shop there. That section needs needs to be expanded. But a Sams Club too? I know what needs to expand. FairPlay and it's parking lot. Is the entire Yellow Truck going?

I know it sounds goofy to have both stores there . My source said yes all of Yellow Truck leaving. We'll see what happens. It'll be interesting to see how much tax revenue is generated there compared to the mall. After classing down the village with a liquor license for Durbins in the mall, 4 liquor selling establishments within 2 blocks of each other at 107th & Ridgeland, and Tilted Kilt, its nice to see a very solid business addition to the ridge

Don't count your chickens before they're hatched or in this case your projected sales tax revenue.
Wal Mart will put businesses in the mall OUT OF BUSINESS. So don't simply add Wal Mart's projected sales tax revenue to the existing CR sales tax base. You will need to make a significant % adjustment downwards from the existing retail tax base as an offset to Wal Marts presence. In Forest Park the entire mall went out of business on Roosevelt Road and Des Plaines Avenue when Wal Mart opened nearby. A baptist church has since opened up inside that vacated mall.
Be careful what you wish for.
I didn't project or wish for anything!

There's stuff i by at the mall ; clothes, shoes, suits, gifts and sport apparel. I visit the restaurants in and around the Mall. And of those items, i do not shop at WalMart for them. I am a big fan of Wak Mart too, but for other items. I would like to see a Super Wal Mart, but have no need for a Sam's Club. I bet that will put Aldi's out of business but, WalMart is doing that now.

When i buy a jar of Helmans mayonnaise and it is the most expensive thing on my list, i don't wonder if the store is union or not. Shop local, FairPlay, Jack & Pats, Aldi. At least the tax will benefit our community.

Yellow freight leaving doesn't mean a loss of union jobs, they are just moving their operation to a bigger dock. As far as I know nobody has lost their jobs, in fact I heard that they are going to be hiring, things are so good for them! They already owned Roadway, so they consolidated the whole operation out to the Roadway dock in Chicago Heights! It was better for the company! There's a lot of land on that Yellow site, no one knows what will come of it, I'm sure something good will happen with it, maybe another large trucking company will take it over.

Resident you must be on crack, Yellow is so close
to going out of biz. When you post to you
do so just to hope people think you know
what's going on. Yellow's stock is down to
somewhere around a dollar from a year ago
at around $26.00. They are selling there real estate to get operating capital and you think everything is rosey. What the hell do we need more
shopping in this town, maybe the village can buy
it and Siegal can put up some more apartments.

Many relied on overtime. No more. i heard many lost their jobs. I know of 2 unemployed dock workers. They are not hiring. They are not going to hire. I know of 2 other small trucking companys that are going under by the end of the year. Many are operating with full time turn part time employees. No one is buying much of other that what is needed. Companys are closing. What are they going to ship if they are out of business? I don't think this will be over anytime soon.

I would think little hollywood is leased. They are talking about across the street 103rd, SE Yellow Chicago ridge corner, not the Cub Bridgeview corner., right?
