By all means. Population has declined dramatically, therefore there is no need for that many elected officials. Additionally, ward councilors rely on neighborhood loyalties for their re-elections. Thus, they are interested in providing boro services whose benefits are geographically concentrated, but whose costs are spread boro-wide. At large councilors, whose constituency is boro-wide are more concerned with boro-wide benefits. This difference in loyalties suggest that ward councilors are more apt to engage in vote trading behavior than are at large councilors. That's why some wards get more than others, but it is all of the boro's money. Think about it.

I can't believe this forum has not taken off fast. This is an excellent idea. It's funny, when there is a good forum, nobody responds. But when it is a bullshit forum people put in their two cents. Count me in on this one.

Count me in too!! Council should have been reduced years ago. Just like the NB Critic said the reasons for electing at large. There are not enough people living in our town to justify that many council people.

the money being wasted on the number of council members is unacceptable, most of them don't do much anyway, Monroeville a community that is much larger only has 7 members meanwhile little North Braddock carries 9 council members, its ridiculous

cut it down to 5 people, one per ward and 2 at large, that will do a fine job, hell you can probably even cut it to 3 with one per ward with the population declining in the region

its amazing that with a town that is struggling for cash that they blow cash on unnecessary items yet wont actually spend money on needed things, such as a real full time police chief, new police vehicles, new dpw vehicles, summer workers for dpw, and other necessary items in town to keep it functioning with good services

money is wasted on too many council members, and a public safety director salary, in a small town of this nature there is no need for a police chief and a public safety director, its all politics and the responsibility of not stepping on nobody's toes, but the community is sick of it and whats effective government

I couldn't have said it any better. You hit the nail directly on the head!! It is all politics. A referendum on the ballot would work nicely. Forget about the boro solicitor helping with the verbage for the petition. I would go outside to another governmental agency attorney for assistance in formulating one. Then present it to the election department to put it on the ballot. You would think that one or more of the current council members would want to reduce expenses and reduce the size of council, but as you said it is all politics. They don't want to eliminate their jobs, so we have to do for them. The only time you see them is at meetings or election time. Then they can run against each other for the remaining seats. That's why it should be at large. As for a public safety director, why do we need one? There is a guy who is collecting his full pension from the police department, and collecting a salary as well as the public safety director. What a "double dipper"!!! How many residents know that? Especially taking in to account the median salary of the boro residents, and the ones on pension. That is a real shame. I thought things would change with the new mayor and council, but it's the same shit, just different asses.

Good idea. 9 is to many. as for nominating some one.Bad idea. We just need someone who is not lazy young or old.A person who dont care what a select few think. Just whats best for our town.

The public safety director, had a contract in place before this council. They did not create that position.

Have you spoken, to any council member about your referendum? I would assume, not. I think their would be support for the referendum.

I think before you judge people, i would speak to them about your ideas and views of the borough.

Oh, in other words they locked him into a contract before the new administration took office. How convenient to say the least.
I'm guessing that if they wanted to get rid of him, they would have to buy him out for a huge sum of money? Again, how convenient?
Politics as usual and at it's worst.
