If the Republicans on the Board need a qualified volunteer who will do the job and not take the health care, I'll be glad to do the job for the pay and the connections. That's why those people are in those positions.

Kudos to Chris Bodkin for seconding the Nolan motion concerning part-time health benefits for paid members of the Islip town boards. Too bad it was voted down. This has been an interesting island wide issue for we long aggrieved taxpayers to view. BOTH political parties are guilty of this quiet depletion of the public treasury. I was intrigued this week to read that Richard Schaffer the Suffolk Democratic Chairman partakes in this gravy serving, this fact combined with former Senator D'Amato's wife's continued use of such health benefits should turn the stomach of any resident struggling to make ends meet. Hopefully the press will continue to highlight these abuses of the public trust.
