Poor parenting!!! Plain and simple...

This has nothing to do with the availibility of racetracks.

Frucking morons tear down my local street, blowing stop signs, just to slam on their brakes at the T-intersection 200 yards away.

Someday soon, a neighbor's kid will be run over - I'm positive about it.

Poor parenting by all races - blacks, whites, browns, yellows - YOU ALL SUCK ASS!

Maybe they should all turn their car radios with the THUMPTHUMPTHUMP speakers a little louder? At least these idiots will enjoy themselves as they go deaf, directly before they get arrested to serve life sentences for shooting their girlfriend or a cop, etc.

Go To Hell, you ignorant, under-educated, trash-holes!!!

Highly dangerous... so that's your take on this? I suppose you know that the BS 55 mph speed limit is only still in force here on LI. I imagine you are aware that elsewhere in the country 65 and 70 mph speed limits are the norm. That makes the reported 80 mph ‘race’ pretty much of a non-event. The roads are designed for faster than 55, cars can be safely operated faster than 55, and many people who choose to exceed 55 are way out of your reach intellectually, so your "knuckle draggers" comment unfairly paints a whole group of people, people you couldn't hold a candle to, in an unfavorable light.
You can take your superior attitude and park it sister, because no one needs to listen to your judgmental nonsense. So head back to the refrigerator, grab the Bon Bons out of the freezer, and get back to Jerry Springer you slob.
Utterly ridiculous is perfect for you. Every time you peck out one of your dumb gems, that name becomes even more genuine. Maybe crap kicking hicks from nera-deserted Kansas - nothing good ever came out of Kansas, by the way - drive like idiots and ignore speed limits (is there any place worth speeding to in Kansas?) but on crowded Long Island, heeding speed limits is just common sense. Someone did point out that the service road these two compatriots of yours were doing eighty was designed for 40mph.

Why don't you find a nice compliant ewe and make heirs to carry on your family's automotive tradition. LOL

Now If we had a race track Long Island. Maybe this wouldn't have happened. Don't get me wrong. I do not condone Street racing . It's way too dangerous, but we had a race track on Long Island it would be not only legal to race, It would be safe too.

What's more dangerous then street racers?People driving on the expressway with cellphone in one hand coffee in other weaving in and out of traffic at 100 miles an hour. This is an acceptably practice here on L.I.because their either in a hurry to make their next deal(screw someone out of money) or their above the law going out to to do summer stock in East Hampton. In either case they're just as guilty as the street racer but always given a bye because they know someone. The real L.I.(middle class)even through taxes provided them an exclusive lane on the expressway the Hamptons Only Vehicles lane. Now we did that to make roads safe for them so why would they be so against providing a safe place to race.Boy don't they get everything, they even take our children to die in fights they pick but don't have the balls to fight. They have figured how to make money off it though!

BOHICA, closed minded people like you are the reason why long island is becoming such a shitty place to live. Drag racing is a sport just like any other, a sport that just as many young people and adults alike want to partake in as say baseball or golf. Yet still, closed minded people like you insist that while everyone else can happily enjoy their sport, us car enthusiasts do not deserve a place to enjoy ours.

And sure, saying "there is no track, so that is why I street race" is an idiotic thing to say...there are a lot of teens out there who are doing what teens do best; being stupid, that could possibly be swayed away from street racing had they had a proper place to play.

And not to justify street racing, it is stupid and in todays day and age with the volume of people on the road it can not be done 100% safely, people hear about two cars having an illegal speed contest and right away assume they were going to kill someone. You could get a ticket for going a few mph over the speed limit if you are accelerating at a rapid rate next to another car. Meanwhile, there are idiots speeding all around us, morons in minivans, SUV's and trucks with the braking power of a locomotive riding peoples bumpers at 80mph on the LIE, Sunrise or Niccols and people talking on cell phones left and right. I think it is safe to say that individual speeders kill far more people than street racers ever have or will, yet if someone gets a speeding ticket they don't end up in newsday.

It's propaganda people, the police department fluffs things up to reassure the public that they are doing their job. Street racing isn't nearly as big of a problem as it is made out to be, yet it is made out to be the greatest menace to society ever. How about drunk drivers? My uncle was killed by one. THOUSANDS of people are leaving bars over the legal limit on the island every night. You want to get all hyped up about something, get hyped up over that. But no, since so many people drink and then leave bars, you'll never see the police setting up checkpoints outside of bars or talking about any other similar ways to REALLY stop DWI because it wouldn't be good for public relations.

Sorry, I meant to say you can 'get arrested' for accelerating next to someone at a few mph over the speed limit, not 'get a ticket'

i must say reading some of these posts makes me laugh. first off 80 mph on the service road or the lie is fast. maybe when you are the one hit by one of these cars moving that fast you will realize the kind of damage that an average of 2500 to 3500 lbs moving at 80 mph will do. that is if you live to realize it. secondly, the article does state that it was on the service road. both men should have there licenses temporarily revoked. but since they are bound to do it again, they will hopefully get caught again and permanently lose there licenses. how many people die every year in car accidents? when will people realize that cars really aren't toys?

Individuals like you seem to want to vilify those who wish to have a legal place to enjoy their hobby. If you have any other hobbies aside from sitting at the computer, imagine what it would be like if you had no legal place to enjoy that hobby. IF we took away all golf courses, or bought out all baseball fields you could imagine the uproar the community would have. Us drag racing enthusiasts simple want a place to play just like all others want a place to enjoy their hobby.
While I am not saying a legal drag track will take all the idiots who street race off the street, it is INEVITABLE that teens will push the limits of their cars while they are young and stupid. Give them a drag track, and it may take SOME of them off the street as you will be throwing them into a mix of responsible adults who will try to teach them that the track is the safe way to enjoy this hobby. If you don't believe there are responsible adults in this hobby, go find any specific automobile website and you will probably find a club that hosts track days and discourages street racing. Not that there aren't also irresponsible adults there as well, but there are also irresponsible adults at golf courses or skating rinks or anywhere else.
Further more, I find it very amusing how so many are quick to cast the first stone, yet in actuality...activities that most of you probably partake in while driving end up killing far more people than street racing ever has. Not that street racing is good, but eating while driving, texting while driving, just-plain-old-speeding, aggressive driving ect...have surely claimed far more lives. Why is street racing the big deal then? Easy. It's because authorities can define it and take action, media could report it and by and large, most people can be turned against it because they have not done it themselves.
Once again, dumb people are turned to focus on the lesser of evils simple because it's a hot-button topic capable of creating a lynch mob. The media loves this
