I've heard of the original legend of hanging tree located in a small wooded location down grove street and by the swan river, but I can't seem to find any information on the supposed 2 deaths that happened at that location, I've been to the spot but could only find Initials among other trinkets that suggest a death at that tree unless its a mean joke... If anybody knows please fill me in thanks.

I went to the haning tree tonight! I brought someone from my group. I showed him where I encountered the spirit that dwells there. From the first time I was at the hanging tree.
This time it did not fail. From the right and slightly behind us we heard a whispering yell "Get Out!" I though it was someone playing a trick on us. So we start to walk away when I heard it running around us into the thick brush. I believe there is only 1 spirit there. But no matter what people tell you. There is something there and it Intelligent! |

Judged: 1 I have seen a young man hanging from that tree a few times...as well as ghostly like shapes risin up out of the creek water (behind the tree). During the day the spot is fine....I used to sit right under it....but at night that place comes alive.... |

The fog you speak of is actual me passing gas... I live on the other side of the river!
discribe the area... Is it close to sweezy or down toward the bay? |
|
|
Go the end of Sweezy to Grove Avenue...hang a left...its down quite a ways on your left....It was a big patch of woods near the water towards the end of the street...but again its so overgrown now and has been developed I dont even know if its accesible....
There was a center path through the wood (you'll know it by over grown foliage on the left of the path, and nothing but tall maples on the right o the path....take that and to the end of the path make a right....follow it around to the tree...if you print out a pic you cant miss it.... |

The hanging tree was cool. I ended up figureing out the words written on the tree. It says, "I love you B.P. a.k.a Kalled, I miss you." Who is Kalleb? was he the suicide or the murder case? Who ever her is, I hope his death was quick a painless.

I GREW UP IN THE AREA WITHIN THE LAST 30YRS. MY FATHER AND HIS FATHER GREW UP THERE AND ALL MY EXTENDED FAMILY FOR OVER 3 GENERATIONS. WHOM EVER MADE THIS STORY UP IS CLEVER. I GREW UP PLAYING AND RIDEING DIRT BIKES IN THOSE WOODS FOR 18RS, THERE ARE ALOT OF TREES LIKE THAT ON THE BANK, LIVED A BLOCK AWAY, AND NEVER SAW MUCH OF ANYONE BACK THERE EXCEPT BUMS LIVING ON THE BANKS OF THE CREEK IN THE SUMMER, BUT IM PRETTY SURE IN THE EARLY 80'S SOME GUY O.DEED BACK THERE, NOT HUNG AND NOT IN THAT AREA, OFF THE ROAD IN A DIRT BIKE TRAIL, YOU HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO OFF ROAD MUCH BACK THERE IN ABOUT 14/15 YEARS. BUT IF THERE WAS A STORY LIKE THAT IM SURE I WOULD HAVE HEARD OF IT. BUT THE OLD PATCHOGUE HOTEL WAS THERE AND THAT AREA WAS A RESORT AREA, HOTEL BURNED, HOMES PUT UP IN THE LATE 40'S, MY PARENTS HOUSE WAS THE MODEL HOME FOR THE AREA SOUTH OF SMITH, YOU CAN DIG IN THE AREA AND PULL UP ALMOST ANYTHING FROM THE FIFTY'S TO INDIAN ARTIFACT'S BIG TRIBAL, FISHING, RESORT HISTORY, NO HANGING'S, AND IF THERE WERE HANGING'S PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN DONE AT TOWN HALL WICH HAS ALWAYS OCCUPIED THE AREA IT INCLUDING THE OLD BROOKHAVEN TOWN HALL ACROSS THE STREET, WITCH DOES HAVE A CREEPY TREE INFRONT!

I want to clear up my previous post. There was a young man who was a personal friend of my brother (I will only give his initials as KR) who hung himself from this tree around 1989. A previous blogger on this page named "person" talked about initials that were carved in the tree that say "I love you B.P. a.k.a Kalled, I miss you." This person (BP) is the son of a personal friend of mine, who just hung around this area a lotm, not even sure if he knew it was the hanging tree. There is now a memorial for "BP" under the tree built by his friends (at least there was one at the time that a photo taken and posted on the following website: http://www.un explained mysteries.com/forum/index.php...
I assure you that BP died peacefully at home in his bed 4 years ago and he his memorial is there only because he loved the area. Thank you |

I grew up there also on Bay ave. and was definatly in those wood's in 1989, never once heard of anyone commiting suicide there or anything like that.

me and 2 of my friends went back there and my friend got slapped in the back of the head when he walked deep into the woods looking for wood for a fire at 3 at night and me and the other kid heard screaming and branches braking it was scary shit we stayed there 4 2 hours

To Local: I may be wrong about the year but if you lived in the area in the 80s (I am sure that it was sometime mid to late 80s) a 30ish man who lived on Grove Ave at his parents house across the street hung himself there, he was a close friend of my brother's. He was part of a well know family in the area. The other young man (initials BP carved on the tree) died young but not at that location. He died peacefully at home, he and his friends frequented the area and it is such a beautiful peaceful place during the day. There is a memorial at the tree for him. I was there with his mother visiting the memorial that his friends have kept there for him for the last 4 years and while we were there a butterfly landed on the tree and stayed there waving its wings for a good 10 minutes. Then it got up and flew through all of us and landed right on a red heart that is nailed to the tree (painted on a white cross) and flew off. It is not a bad place, it is very spiritual. His mother really wants everyone to know that he is at peace and he did not hang himself or get murdered.

Also to "person": It is not Kalleb, his nickname from the PMHS football team was Killa B and that is what it says

I want to take my team there, we tried finding the location once but it's so full of overgrown bushes and stuff we can't make out where this path would be.. any info would really help, thanks.
|
|
i went there during the day and as i made my way down the path, i experienced a feeling of spiritual heaviness and began to cough as if i were being suffocated the closer i got to the tree.... as i approached the tree, the coughing co ntinued and only stopped abruptly as soon as i was back on the street.. i am a born again christian and i discerned oppressive spirits . i knew i didnt belong there so i left... and to anyone thinking of going,,, bring bug spray because you will be bitten unmercilously...

I believe your right and I believe I know the person. I heard about it after I left Patchogue in 71. The young man KR, had two sisters and one brother, I know and I'm not sure if there's was an older brother. I lived on Grove Ave, down by the bay. It's sad, and he had a Nice family too. God Bless him./ family
