There is no nice middle class black neighborhoods. Its a shame because there are a few nice houses, where blacks work hard to make a living and raise their kids right. They work hard to keep their homes up and take pride. These few are the minorities of the minority though. Its sad. Something needs to be done because Long Island is falling 1 town at a time like a virus.

You need to talk to your parents. Unless you live in Belle Terre, Muttontown, or the Hamptons there are very few "white middle class" only neighborhoods left on LI. Seriously. Your old neighbors down the street, who you haven't seen in awhile (now that you think of it)... sold out to a Sect. 8 landlord, or to an "investor" who is renting out to anyone who comes up with the cash. Once someone of the "wrong" color or class moved in, that triggered a couple of other owners, maybe the next-door neighbors to the first guy, to sell out and the process has started. But, not everybody notices right away - until something "bad" happens - because the rest of the "white middle class" neighborhood is too busy, with both parents working full-time just to pay those ridiculous Long Island bills, that you really don't talk to your neighbors that much anymore... Nobody talks, nobody notices (or cares) about the extra "traffic" going to and fro from these houses, who actually "lives" there, how many people, what kind of people, or says to themselves "Hey, why are so many cars coming and going from the Johnson house lately? It's just the old couple Johnson living there, they never got many visitors before?" until sh*t like this happens and then you realize the old Johnson couple moved out 3 years ago and YOU HAVE NO CLUE who is living there now...
Point is, there is alot of "diversity" moving ALL OVER Long Island, and - unfortunately - not all of it is "good".
Never mind the problem with the influx (invasion?) of illegals. And you might want to rethink the "white only neighborhood" comments in reference to Holtsville - as the video clearly shows the "Hispanic" neighbors of the victim commenting...
I would add one last comment. You do have some time before "this starts happening all over LI" because, at this time, the overwhelming majority of "home invasions" ARE the result of criminals getting info about OTHER criminals stashing cash in their homes and figuring they can get away with stealing it because the other criminals are not going to involve the cops as they will get into trouble themselves.
Maybe - in this one case - it seems like the invaders MAY have gotten a wrong address. But, even if that turns out to be the case, I can guarantee there is a "stash house" within a block or 2 of the victims, maybe even just a few doors down... they may have just went to the wrong house. And they (or their criminal "brothers") WILL be back once they figure out the "right" house...
Maybe you should stop obsessing about Long Island and worry about your own nieghborhood. All you do is troll the Newsday forum looking for any opportunity to put down LI. Jeez don't they have cable where you live?

No I read it. And all the other posts they wrote. no matter what the subject is, they always spew the same thing. Long Island is too expensive, it's going in the toilet, get out now. I live in a wonderful place now...blah blah blah. It's a bit played now.

1)First of all, "I" am not "they". So please don't lump my comments in with some other group whom I do not know and have no idea what they said or wrote.

2)Next, please show me ONE POST where I EVER wrote "Get out now!" or ever told anyone they should consider leaving LI. Just ONE...

3)And - since I lived on LI from age 5 to age 40, only gone 5 years, and return for business regularly - I believe that I am qualified to comment on topics such as the economic and social changes that are currently happening on LI; and the contrasts between what most people who lived on LI longer than the last 10 years remember it was like, compared to now.

4) The OP comment I posted about was from a Holtsville native who basically said "no way this could happen in Holtsville because Holtsville is a typical white middle class LI neighborhood, I grew up there and my folks still live there..."
I explained how that really has become an oxymoron nowadays; people of different races and classes ARE moving in to sections of ALMOST EVERY such neighborhood on LI (except the really "rich" areas)- but most of the neighborhood doesn't realize it because both parents work, everyone is busier trying to stay afloat, you don't really talk to your neighbors anymore. Until something happens, then the block is "shocked" at who lives in that house down the street now...people start to panic and "bail"; selling out to "investors" who turn the homes into rentals or Sect. 8... and in 5 years the neighborhood has turned into a developing slum. And everyone shakes their heads and can't figure out how or why it happened. Well, I just told you how and why - and noted that, despite denial by some too scared or ignorant to notice - it IS happening. NOW.

6)And I pointed out the obvious; how come the neighbors in the news video are ALL Hispanic if Holtsville is supposed to be a "white" town, according to the OP?
Answer: because it ISN'T anymore. The Holtsville he "grew up in" is going, going, GONE.

5)And I noticed that no one who read my post and commented - including YOU - tried in any way to dispute the substance of what I wrote. Becuase you CAN'T. It is the truth.
All you can do is see an IP address and think you got some ignorant Mormon hick on the other end and put on the old "LawnGuyLand Tough Guy" act...

1. Don't talk to me about lumping comments into another group. All you do is generalize about LI and lump everyone here into one group.
2. I don't have your kind of free time to research all your posts. All I know is when I see your tag it is usually a negative editorial about life on LI.
3. You are no longer a LIer. You gave up on LI 5 years ago. Unless you live and work here everyday, you are NOT qualified to comment on the changes that are currently happening here. However, you are qualified to comment on topics concerning your own home state. Just like LI, I am sure it has it's share of problems.
4,5,6) I know LI has problems, just like everywhere else. I don't have to dispute anything with you. YOU DO NOT LIVE HERE ANYMORE.

You make some good points. What often happens is that people leave LI and find out they cannot return because they are priced out. They then spend their time trying to tell everyone here how much better off they are. Sad.

So basically, you are saying that you CAN'T refute ANY of my points with fact... but they "don't count" because - according to you - I am no longer "qualified" to comment.

Based on the assumption that, what? you have been appointed 'official' thread mediator or something?

I just reread your response. Again, not one piece of factual proof to back your end up. So, you just decided if you don't want to hear what I'm saying you'll declare the discussion "over"...?

Lastly, I just spent 2 months straight in Suffolk Co. on business. So I believe I saw enough to draw some accurate conclusions on the changes that are occurring on LI.

So, if you consider the discussion over, then I only have one thing left for you to read:

"Bu-Bye!!!"

You spent 2 months here on business? Oh my god, and you survived? What's the matter no work where you live? You'll probably respond that SLC has the lowest unemployment rate in the world. Everyone is working the perfect job and they smile all day long. The nice thing about the internet is you can say anything about yourself. Right, Pete the Genius? With all the truck stops between SLC and Suffolk county you couldn't find work closer to home? Looks like your plan has a serious flaw. Most LI housholds may need both parents to work (as you have brilliantly observed in other posts) But I would guess that most of them don't have to leave the state for months at a time.

You spent 2 months here and you survived? Oh my god it's a miracle. What's the matter, no work where you live? You'll probably say, I have a great job here that pays more than when I worked in NYC. I chose that assignment so I could visit family for a while. The nice thing about the internet is you can say anything about yourself. Right Pete the Genius? Get A Life, you sound like the captain of a ship in peril. While Long Island still retains a lot of its wonderful features, over the years there has been a significant change in the quality of life. With the increase in gang activity, the spread of urban problems into suburbia, the ever present road construction and traffic that grows worse by the day, Long Island is losing some of its charm.

There is a reason why people are leaving the region in droves...actually there are quite a few reasons. If Long Island still has all of its luster in your eyes, that is great and I hope it stays that way. But some people see writing on the wall, and feel the need to leave before the ship sinks.

Don't let the toll gate hit you in the a$$ on the way out. I am well aware of the problems that exist on LI. What makes you think these problems are unique to this area?
