Not particularly. The fact that it's new would probably be more out of character.

Why does everything get geared toward low income housing, There is tons of subsidized units there in Patchogue and someone else, (taxpayers), are picking up the tab. My property taxes keep going up due to the political pandering of the office holders who are looking for the votes to stay in office. These units attract the most uneducated, undocumented individuals and instead of rising the bar, the bar is lowered and these areas do not get better. The Structures are window dressing.

I agree that it's out of character with what Patchogue wants to be. The picture in the Long Island Advance shows a massive building that looks like a hospital. When Swezey's built their new store (Now Briarcliff College) they designed a building remeniscent of the old Lace Mill which previously stood on the site. Perhaps the architects could take a clue from the old Swezey which once was the "jewel" of the Four Corners and and do the same.

Pack em'in Pontieri is at it again. No one is talking about the traffic that will be generated at the four corners, or has all the rocket scientists in Village Hall not taken that into consideration. Would love to see a traffic study done.
I agree with those that have said the project is out of character. Fact is, Pontieri can be bought by the developers.
A well thought out plan with long term considerations would be welcome. Not this shoot from the hip, photo opportunity graber projects that Pontieri thrives on.
In March the Mayor is up for re-election, let your thoughts known at the polls. I certainly will.
DUMP Pack em' in Pontieri and his posse.

This is another step towards a socialist society. Low income housing. Remember socialisim gives to the least productive members of society and takes from the most productive. Build high income housing!!!!

What about when they demolish and construct the building….which streets and for how long will they be closed? That will be an inconvenience to residents and businesses.

Is there enough infrastructure for this and all the other projects Pack 'em in Paul is sponsoring? What about water demand?

Is the STP up to snuff? It sure smells like it isn't.

The Village should begin a SEQRA process on this project ASAP…unlike the other sardine can projects he is packing into the village.

the only reason the other high density projects went through so fast is because there is on other agency oversight...no State DOT, no County DPW, no Co. health department or Planning. one wonders what these agencies might have said about any or cumulatively about the impacts of these projects.

Lets begin the un-election campaign!!!

I totally agree that the new structure will not be in character with the village. A Hilton Garden Inn? That will hardly blend in with the surroundings. And the traffic will be an absolute nightmare for anyone trying to get to any of the other attractions on Main Street, or get home! Low income housing... is being a citizen a prerequisite to qualify?

A hotel in Patchogue? Why? Is that at all necessary? I can't imagine living somewhere else and thinking to myself Patchogue that's where I want to go. I just think its a bit absurd. I have lived in Patchogue my whole life and I hate to see Main street the way it is right now, but that is not what Patchogue needs. It needs more stores on the street, stores that will actually attract people. What is there now Dollar King, I think they can do better then that. In the early years Patchogue was the largest shopping area on Long Island. What happened? I say bring it back to the way it use to be. I am a young person who is having trouble trying to figure out what to do in the future as far as housing, but I have to disagree with the affordable housing. Not to be rude in any way but it will attract the wrong type of people. I love my town, but sometimes when you tell people you are from Patchogue you feel as if they look down on you. That should not be the case. Patchogue is practically surrounded by water, you can take the ferry to both Davis Park and Watch Hill, you can now go to the theater there are many great aspects to Patchogue. Why destroy that? Look at other main streets that are succeeding, Port Jeff (they have a Gap and a Starbucks), and Sayville (Starbucks, and cute classic stores.I feel like all they are thinking about is money not what is right for Patchogue. Ok I am done with my rant.

I think it's great! It's called progress.I love going downtown, the bars/restaurants are wonderful, the theatre is beautiful. The housing they plan on building is called affordable housing not low income housing, there's a big difference. The housing is for working class people not welfare recipients.I think this project is great for the village of patchogue and surrounding areas.

Hey Theresa, affordable housing is for people like you.Did you visit the copper beech village condos? The affordable units were selling for about $180,000.That means you would only have to earn about 54,ooo a yr.The other units were selling for $351,000 and they're all sold.I live in Sayville and I'm thinking about selling my house and buying one of those new condos that are going to built on main st.I like the idea of being able to walk to a restaurant, catch a show at the theatre and also be able to walk to the train station to get to nyc.

Same difference.

Having an income requirement for housing on main street, hmmm do you think people that need a program like this to afford a place to live are really going to go into town and spend money? Maybe at the dollar king.

Can't afford market rates in Patchogue = probably can't afford to eat out a lot or take in many shows.

there's another article on newsday.com that mentions a survey of long islanders who say that 3 out of 4 would not be able to purchase today the house they are currently living in. most of us in society who work for somebody else, the salaried worker, is just getting by. come on admit it, we're all buried in debt, cost of living increases have far exceeded our raises at work. people are so hung up on labels and want to keep calling themselves 'middle class'. are most of us really middle class anymore when we need two incomes in the household to get by? is it right that our kids are raised by someone in daycare because mom has to work. times certainly have changed since I was a kid growing up in the 80's. in a country where the social economic divide is wider than ever, we the working class are our own worst enemy.

Good use. Instead of tearing down more trees (which leads to flooding) someone is going to renovate an already existing structure, provide employment, and housing.
SOMEONE must have read, Better not Bigger!
What would be lovely to see? Worker housing built on the site of the Bellport Outlets. NOT on the Carmens River watershed, which would only lead to the problems like those around Lake Ronkonkoma where houses have to be purchased by municipalities because, quite frankly, they never should have been there in the first place.
Long Island should strive to be an example of progessive growth, with environmental concerns at the forefront of every project. This is an ISLAND, with limited sustainable resources.
I hope the Patchogue project goes through. Patchogue's Main Street is a very charming spot.
