I have always been a fan of smoke detectors.
The problem with them is if you have source of smoke from an open fire you will likely have them going off a lot for other reasons than smoke from a source that endangers the home and residents.
I am thinking of situations where a home has for instance a fireplace. An alarm that goes off too frequently will likely wind up being disconnected after a while.
Also you have to remember to keep the batteries changed.
Fire code changes for homes within the city limits certainly are a step in the right direction. However would these changes apply to preexisting residences?
just some thoughts.
