a sad loss, my condolence's to the families...
|
|
My heart hurts today for the families and loved ones of those who were lost. I knew Capt. Louis Mulkey. He loved kids and was a tremendous asset to the educational/sports community of Summerville, South Carolina as well as being a dedicated fire fighter. We can best remember these dedicated individuals by supporting those who are committed to making their community a better place whether it be fire fighters, paramedics, police officers, or teachers. They are the backbone of any community.

God bless the firefighters and the families and the good people of charlestson. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It's not the contents of the building but the size of the fire that determines the response. This was a HUGE fire in a warehouse, and warehouse fires can get out of control very quickly. |
|
There was a report of 2 victims trapped inside, one got out, the other was unaccounted for, thus creating the urgency to do a search. The victim who was reportedly trapped was able to get out and before the firefighters could exit, the building flashed and collapsed. We have a mission: To protect lives and property. Even though we may know the people are out and there is a fire inside a building, we still go in and fight the fire to protect the property. Yes it was just furniture, but it was also someone's livleyhood. True, material things can be replaced, lives can not, but it's not up to us to decide what happens, the Lord has plans for all of us. He had other plans for those guys and they answered the call. |
|
In training yesterday they mentioned that a crew of firefighters inside were trapped by a partial collapse, then a R.I.T. team went in to pull them out. That might have something to do with the amount of firefighters inside. Truely a tragic loss, it could have happened to any of us. My prayers go out to their families. |

I wonder where all the posters are now who want to save a couple of dollars off their tax bills because they don't like our work hour schedule, benefits and retirement ?
Just how much do those "compassionate conservatives" think the wives and children of my fallen brothers deserve for their loss. I hope that moron in Weston, Florida who posted on another thread railing against firefigthers retirement will write in. ...Or that other moron Publix worker who hates firefighters too. |

As a FFPM mother in law, I couldn't agree with you more! May God bless those families in SC. There but by the grace of God, it could have been your family or mine. There is not enough money or benefits in the world to compensate for the loss of a family member in a tragedy such as this. Unfortunately, we deal with alot of narrow minded bloggers who just don't get it. |

This fire started out as a dumperst fire that spread into the building.
Visit this web page for a timeline on the fire. It took about 30 mins from call to collapse. Fast moving hot fire. http://www.charleston.net/photos/2007/jun/19/... |
This was a very sad day, not easy to comprehend. I dont think anyone "hates" any public servent, we all know them either as friends or family. It is the unions that will politicize this unfortunate event for more funding. Dont forget we have soldiers killed every day that are not even twenty years old. An average of 3 truck drivers die every week bringing food and goods to your table. We are all at risk. |

God bless, guide and protect the families of these fallen firefighters, now as they grive and later as they move on through life.
The impact of this tradgedy will be a lifelong burden for the kids now facing life without their dads, but inspiration can also come out of this tragic loss. |

I think they are looking to get money for dying to benefit their families. They should all have 401k's like private industry. Look at Vallejo CA where the firemen are bankrupting the city. END ALL FIREMEN PENSIONS NOW.

I still wonder why the people aint trying to get these dollars for the families of those police offiers, deputites that have been killed.
They can't get enough here for the firefighters but could care less about the police officers that die in the line of duty. This isn't against helping the firefighters families. But they have probably received enough to financially support there family for life. Yet the police officers best hope was they were wise enough to get into a retirement program and get insurance. |

#1 Make sure a person is guilty before you affect his reputation, his freedom or his pocketbook.#2 Make sure that during your investigation you always assure yourself that you are the fairest juior a suspect will ever have. And #3 Remember - you do not make facts; you discover and report them.
