I may be relocating to the Charlestown area this summer for a temporary job assignment, which is in the Summerville area. I like the city and nightlife so should I look to live in Charlestown and travel to Summerville everyday for work (is traffic bad on I-26?) or should I live in Summerville and travel to Charlestown for entertainment (are there buses or public transit between Summerville and Charleston?)

And the court system, also full of negros, does nothing to them. As a former business owner in Charleston, I was robbed and shoplifted so many times (all by negros) that I finally sold the businesses. The police are great but the court system sucks!
Now I see why the Carolinas are still considered "racist" areas. I am a white woman who grew up in a mostly white world. Then my man joined the military and we traveled.

We have several good friends who are negros. NONE of them sell drugs and do crime. One is a university graduate and last time we heard from him, he is working 2 jobs to get out of his parent's house. One is in high level law enforcement. Another is a computer sytem's administrator. So Colin Powell and Condi Rice are not the only really intelligent ones. I'd also hold up Bill Cosby, a famous comedian who, by the way RAILS against the very thing you despise; the racist black attitude and culture of drugs and crime.

So please remember it is the PERSON and what they are made of that is or is not a problem; not their race.

People can stop that nonsense any time they want by cutting stations like BET out of their cable, that glorify the psuedo gangsa lifestyle. People can SUPPORT their local law enforcement when it comes to getting tough on gangs. You think 'black' crime is bad; wait'll you get a taste of what MS13 (a Salvadorian based gang) can do.

I agree with you on the court thing. Personally, it is MY opinion that anyone who belongs to a violent street gang should get the death penalty.

Charleston is a great place to relocate. Traffic is not bad, especially if you've ever lived in a large metropolitan area. Cost of living continues to increase, as it does in most areas. However, it's a buyer's market for homes. I recommend Summerville - it's 25 minutes to downtown Charleston but crime and cost of living are much lower. Avoid North Charleston. It has nice pockets but your resale will be tough since NC was just ranked the 7th most dangerous city in the US.
Hey, you start getting a lot of construction and development in there. It won't be as nice as you describe for long. Rapers.

Yankees are worse than Mexicanos. They don't work and try to tell us how to live, eat and talk. The Mexicans at least know to work hard and keep their mouths shut.

I remember Sprull it was bad in the late 70's and early 80's. The Flying Dutchman was a Bar that had Country on one side and Rock on the other when I was there,it wasn't a strip club. Maybe it was before 80 or after 80 but druing that time it wasn't I used to go there all the time because I liked both styles of music. I have held Navy reunions there in North Charleston and I am holding one again this Sept. there. The Jesse L Brown ff-1089 was ported there. Kinda sad to hear about the base closing. As far as living there I still have several friends that say it is pretty nice with problems like everywhere else, depending on where you live. Goose creek ect seems to be the best spot so far. Best of luck on your move, I envy you, my wife won't move that way or I would be down in that area someplace.

The flying Dutchman was a strip club in the 70s. Today it's some kind of electronics or corp business.

Sprull probably isn't as bad today as it was in the old navy base days. The streetwalkers have pretty much left and probably moved to the remount area. I guess I am kind of Nieve as I don't notice them, but then again I am not looking for them.

But in traveling around in large cities you will see those problems everywhere.

I only been to one ships reunion which was in Myrtle Beach really enjoyed it. THe only problem is my dad is in bad health in minn and we only get home once a year and going to the reunion and visiting my mom and dad is to much. I have to go to what is the most important and thats my folks.

The reunion I went to was for the USS McDonough DDG-39 but I was stationed on the USS Trippe
FF1075. I made Chief onboard the Trippe and if I recall right the Jessie Brown was in the yards with us in Boston and Newport R.I. back in the late 80s. It seems to me I spent part of my initiation on board the Brown going through some of the fun there. I could be wrong, they had us visiting a lot of the chiefs mess's on board the different ships there.

We are interested in buying a retirement home in the Charleston area on a golf course environment. What do u reccommend? We are in our mid 50's, not old, work out, like to golf and bike and not live in an old people's retirement area. We love trees and beautiful environment. Any reccommendations ?
