Hope she realizes this 3% is just a guess for the press release, you can bet that when the final number crunching is completed the actual % icrease will be higher for the taxpayers.
So Mayor do you live in a vacume someplace out side of the real world the rest of us live in?
Sure you sound glib telling tax payers it's only 3% but you need to keep in mindwe tax payers are being hammered by small increases every day.
1)our mayor just increased parking fees increased parking ticket enforcement. She could have used the money wasted on parking BS to hire more police for real police work.
2)every bill I receive has new fees surcharge, transmission fees excise taxes etc etc Tax payers are being hit by small
inccease in monthly charges for everything.
3) Food cost are going up all the time and this dry hot summer is going to add more cost.
so mayor your 3% added to the bunch of % we are already paying is too much.
50 Years of growth in city government and cost hasto be dialed back.
There is lots of waste in city government Before you raise any taxes fees lets cut the waste.
Be glad to show you where you can start cutting before you increase any tax or program
I have lived in Nashua since 1972, every year since I arrived the cost of living in Nashua has gone up.
Nashua , NH and the country are in a deep recession and there is no light at the end of the tunnel on this mess.
City budgets needed to be written crafted in context with the econmic reality we are in today.
Based on our city state and federal economy you shouldbe reducing our Nashua city budget by 7%.
Union contract always go up even though the local economy has had ups and downs union contracts always go up.
We need to change that. We should have a group of tax payers sitting at the table deciding if we the people who pay for the contracts can afford the increase.
40 years of increases in the cost of union contracts have brought us to a point where union memeber in the public sector steal through contract langange tricks more money every year than the tax payers paying the bills.
This trend has to stop and be reversed.
Get Nashua police out of construction details put them into real police work. Stop police overtime. There is no policeman on the planet worth $160.00o a year but you and the department allow them to work crazy overtime just before they retire and we tax payers get stuck with the bill.
No person can be effective working 60 70 hours a week and I as a tax payer don't want to pay for this nonsense.
When the economy is down as it is today unions have to be willing & able to give back reduce the stress on tax payers.
Thirty some social agencies need money? Funding 30 social agencies when economic times are good is a great lofty idea.
But in a recession can we really afford 30 social agencies?
How about we consoldate the agencies into a smaller number think of the savings in OVERHEAD, less rent less managers less impact on tax payers.
There is lots of real waste in City state county & federal government why don't you do your job and reduce the size and cost of nashua city government.
Few dollars here and there and first thing you know we tax payers can see a real 7 % reduction in taxes and you mught keep your job.
Costs of living are always going up. That's how it works smart one. City services cost more and more every year...are you dumb enough to think that Nashua's service costs have only gone up 3%? Having taxes only go up a measly 3% is a blessing when many things the city provide are becoming more and more expensive.
1) The meters raise money. You know those round things you put in the meter. If the city cant raise money, where do you think the money is going to come from?
2)So is the city.
3)So is the city supposed to buy your food for you? Or make it rain? I'm not exactly sure.
What's an example of government waste you feel exists in the city of nashua? Have you compared city budgets over the years?
The only thing here that remotely made sense, or was true, was that police overtime needs to stop. But that's not in the mayor's power. It seems the few people on here against the mayor are against her out of ignorance. Typical.
To show the mayor how punitive & regressive her meter plan is.
Guess the mayor slept through or failed economics in school. she missed the axion which states
"What you tax you get less of what you subsidize you get more of"
So you go ahead tax and ticket the hell out of the shoppers comming down town and you will get less of them. Along with more empty stores and offices.
To shop main street or go to the libary for a concert I have to raid the coin jar for quarters, bring a stop watch and try not to stay more than two hours before a meter whore scribbles a parking ticket.
Or I can shop at a store in a mall or rte 101A any place without a meter.
If your trying to attract business and shoppers to the main street area you make it easier for them to come and shop not impose punative parking meters plan.
I would like to see the actual cost of this mess and the years of pay back time. News PARKING ENFORCEMENT CARS, people, uniforms, equipment, maintance on the new meters cost of the meters. This is a really bad not well thought out plan.
This plan will speed the end of main street shops and offices. Would you or any reasonible business person want to open a business or office WITH NO OR LIMITED PARKING.
Plus the real shame of this plan it adds another layer of long term city employees with pensons union contract BS. Nashua will be paying for this mess in many ways for many years to come.
Nashua needs smaller government less overhead less impact on tax payers who are being strangled be more fee's toll's parking crap, surcharges ,excise taxes, of every kind while incomes are staying the same or falling so where is all of these extra dollars going to come from.
Look at Ca, IL MI NY cities and states who have every tax fee etc known to man kind are going bankrupt or about to, becuase no matter how much money government takes in it's never enough. Been to Detroit or chicago lately?
Remember that axiom from economics? have ya been to our welfare offices lately the numbers of people signing up and abusing the system is staggering.Becuase the more free stuff government gives the more people sign up for it and why not it's free to them, but Tax payers get stuck with the bill.
parking meter plan a bad long term move for a city trying to grow business
Dear actual facts
I am not anti mayor. I voted for her, I am for growth in the private sector that's the segment of our economy which brings new jobs & revenue to government.
By any object standard increasing parking fees aggressivly ticketing cars will not increase revenue to the city. People will find other places to shop and conduct business without the parking fee problem which will bring more empty store fronts and offices on main street.
Whats missing from this conversation is the fact for 40 years Nashua city government has grown in size and cost, so each year it cost more just to maintain the level of government services. Every agency dept etc that has been created continues to grow demanding more money today than it did when started up.
At some point there needs to be a cut back in size and cost or we end up with so many programs along with taxes we go broke as cities in California are doing today. Government never closes out or sunsets any program so today Nashua has 30 social services agencies. Come on Actual facts can you identify review and justify the continued support for all 30 agencies?
Consider union contract the city has in place today. For the past 40 years there have been sometimes small incremential increases in all union ocntracts to the point where employees in those unions have better pay and benifits than are found in the private sector. And still unions demand more or they will strike.
Home owners are being crushed by taxes fees increases in all cost. People who have lost jobs are losing homes we have a lot of empty homes and apts here in Nashua. Retired home owners living on fixed incomes are being forced from thier homes by taxes.
Like it or not Nashua and the country is in a recession and we need to adjust our spending to meet the reduction taxpayers incomes.
Unions can't just operate in a vacume unaware of the uncertian economy around them.
Bottom line government just grows there is never any incentive to cut back.
You and the mayor can add every tax fee etc to the city but at some point we will end up with every program known to man kind and broke causet we can't find anything else to tax.
Ask those cities in Cal that just went broke, Detroit et al there just isn't enough money on the planet to support this bloated mess
Hi Actual facts
Did ya read in the news paper that Nashua has 30 social service agencies to fund this year ?
Bet all of those agencies have well thought out names designed to be warm, fuzzy and tug at your heart strings causing you to reach for your check book and give more for the good cause what ever that may be.
You can also wager that those agencies were added to the budget one or two at a time over a period of time and the justification for each new expense was " we can alway afford to pitch in a few dollars to help the left handed fisherman who wear eyeglasses club " or what ever the new money pit was called.
But the point of this exercise is to show that in 2012 we are up to 30 social agencies ( or that's number they tell us about) with an expense of 1/4 million dollars this year on just this group. That $230,000 could be used to reduce property taxes.
Bet if a committee of just regular citizens who can read and write went through the city budget we could find millions of dollars in expenses that could be cut so we could avoid raising property taxes on already straped home owners.
When you sit down and pay your bills this month take a 8"Xll" sheet of paper to write down all of the surharges, fees, transmission taxes, federal & state excise taxes. auto inspection fees licenses for car, boat, hunting, fishing , your dog cat,' wildebeast or what ever pet the state can put a tax on.
Don't forget gas tax the federal government taxes 18 1/2 cents a gallon and the state of NH taxes 34 1/2 cents a gallon. be sure to add in the mayors new parking meter increase which is a tax. Tolls on our toll road which we paid off years ago but has now turned to a revenue source for the state to waste on other projects.
Dump fees, tire removal diposal charge if ya bought new
tires. Oil disposal fee to change your oil.
We are being strangled to death by fees surcharges.
Time to sit down examine what we are being taxed, where that money goes and is that a necessary expense to tax payers. By reducing spending in a rational way we can avoid new taxes or any tax increases on a population already stressed by taxes fees etc etc.
Keep in mind most of the taxes we are forced to pay we never approved or even had a chance to vote on the tax was just levied without our approval.

this woman is out of touch with the economic reality of the city and state.
She either doesn't know tax payers are being hit by higher prices for every day needs gas, food, back to school items, parking downtown, or she doesn't care.
The mayor thinks it's ok to just raise property taxes by an estimate 2.7%(bet the final increase is higher than 2.7%) and we tax payers are just suppose to absorb this tax along with the higher cost of everything else.
So Your mayorness where do you think the extra 2.7% money is going to come from ?
I haven't seen the money fairy stop in Nashua.
Bet she doesn't know or even care about the empty shops and commercial buildings on Main street or our industrial parks.
She could cut city expenses by 3%, cut city hall employees salaries, stop funding for 1/2 of the 30 or more social agencies we fund here every year to the tune of $250,000.00 cut the waste in city street projects.
Come on man do we really need 30 social agencies??
If our local and national economy were booming then fund the extra stuff, but when times are tough and people are loosing jobs, homes that's time when wise managers cut back to avoid further economic damage to home owners.
But no one every claimed that elected officials are wise or smart.
What is needed here is a top to bottom detailed review of how much money the city takes in and what they spend it on.
For example we are in a recessionary period right now, do we still have the money to fund 30 social agenies program at a cost of $250,000.00 a year.
what if we select the 15 most important and not fund the other this year until we can afford to fund them with out raising property taxes.
every year city, state government finds new programs that we must have or the sky will fall. BUT THEY NEVER CLOSE OUT ANYTHING OR SUN SET PROGRAMS, THE PROGRAM AND THE TAX BURDEN GO ON FOR EVER EVEN IF WE NO LONGER NEED THAT PROGRAM OFFICE DEPARTMENT AGENCY.
Tax payers have a limited amount of money to spend the more money government takes out of our pocket the less we can spend to fuel the stuggling economy.
Union contracts can't go on with increases every year, we have to hold the line on those expenses, Let the unions coast as is for a while until the economy catches up with the pay and benifits they have
won at gun point by threat of strike.
she is out of touch with economic reality of our city and the country
Mayor spending too much money, funding 50 social agencies at a cost of $975.500.00 to tax payers then she proposes a 3% tax increase on Nashua Tax payers.
Enough already. where are we tax payers suppose to get all of this extra money she wants to waste.
Social security increase will only be 1.7% this next year,
gas, food clothing, cost of living going up faster and higher. Mayor ya gotta realize there is only a limited amount of money in our check books and the more you tax out in taxes the less we have to live on.
We pay 38.5 cents a gallon in gas taxes here in NH And the big spenders in Concord propose a gas tax increase??
Come on man get in reality here. there is only so much money in the public check book we have to live within our means and the city state and county need to do the same
Time has come to move out of Nashua.. I'm moving in short time as soon as I find new home in Shrewsburry, MA. Where tax is 11.11$ with way much much better school than Nashua.. Every year my property tax is increasing my 500$ to pay city employee pension, plus my house accessed values is 80000$ more then real price of my house

The facts are these.
City, county, State, and federal government have been growing unchecked since 1960.
Our conversation today centers around Mayor & city mismanagement of city government & funds.
City government never cuts, closes, sunsets any office or program. Once installed the program along with some tax, fee, permit, license cost go on and on forever.
You or I can not run our home or any business by just adding cost or overhead to out budgets with out cutting or off setting new cost with cuts to the budget we would go bankrupt.
The city of Nashua is now funding 50 social agencies at a cost to tax payers of $975,500.00 a year and going up every year.
What's up for next year 55 social agencies and where does it stop?
In a perfect world it would be fun to fund every whining group looking for money, but Nashua is not a perfect world.
The lame mayor put in new parking meters all over every where, now thinks she should replace all of that with a new system. who in the hell is paying for all this material and labor to install and then remove and install a new system.
Lets see some labor cost on all of this install remove and install systems.
The city & state take too much money out of our pockets and the economy.
I wish I could run my home the way the city mismanages the local economy I would have a GNU Porsche, big screen TV in every room just cause I want it and someone else is paying for it.
Cut city spending, can't find the cuts in the city budget start with those fifty social agencies we are funding.
over taxed veteran, voter.
But I did not vote for fiscal mismanagement I was promised responsible government and I am still waiting to see that promise
Since: Jul 12
yea but what you forget or just choose to ignore in our home or business when cost of things go up we decision makers have to make cuts to off set the increase in cost.
We as home owners or business managers can't just keep increasing the money we spend.
Government needs to review budgets expenses reducing or closing out old or no longer needed programs.
How about full honest accounting from government. Da mayor tells us we are taking in more money from the new parking meter plan but she is never called to account for how much the city spent on installation of the new system, labor cost, equipment cost etc etc.
now she want to scrap the new system for a newer system which will cost how much in city union labor, equipment cost? maintenance etc etc?
do the citizens of nashua really need to fund 50 or more social agencies at a cost to tax payers of $975,750.00 a year??
did you know we have fifty social agencies can you name fifty social agencies??
I was not able to so I went to city hall and ask for a list, there is a real lot of waste here and in other areas of city government.
