Officials: Obama Willing To Go Over Fiscal Cliff If He Doesn’t Get His Tax Hikes

White House sources are telling Democratic reporters that the president is willing to go over the so-called “fiscal cliff” if GOP leaders don’t agree to his demand for higher tax rates on the wealthy without substantive spending cuts.[...]

The first of two December 3 leaks came via the left-wing Mother Jones publication, where columnist David Corn reported that “according to senior administration officials, Obama is not eager to go over the cliff, but he is willing. If no deal is reached by the end of the month, all the Bush tax cuts — for the rich and not-rich — will evaporate.”

“Obama would then demand in early January that the new Congress immediately pass legislation to reinstate the lower tax rates for the bottom 98 percent,” wrote Corn.

Corn’s claim was later seconded by a left-wing columnist at The Washington Post, Greg Sargent, who sometimes is used by the White House to leak official views.

“I have just confirmed that [Corn's report] is accurate — Obama is willing, albeit very reluctant, to go over the cliff,” Sargent wrote.

Either way the Bush Tax cuts come to an end.

Its GOING to happen. Wether the Repubs in the House want to acknowledge that or not it up to them.

I said it in another thread a while ago. The Repubs. should protest at the top of their lungs about tax increases and other democratic demands, then publically vote for them saying that is what the American people voted for, so they will give the people what they wanted.

Then when their house of cards falls down; say "I told you so."

And if it dosnt?

How "terrible" it would be if it ACTUALLY worked, huh?
Then you might have to give them due credit. Obama too.

When you kill the goose that lays golden eggs, you destroy your source of income.

It doesn't take a mental giant to figure that out.

I'm not sure I care if they DO go over the "cliff". Something drastic needs to be done now. Bush made a mistake with his tax cuts and it's now come back to bite us.

What, you're all against spending cuts now?

I have always been for spending cuts. The dems. have not.

Let them have their way and it will be their fault. It's been 4 years since GW has been president, when is obummer going to start taking responsibility for no improvements?

"If there's no deal, according to the poll, by a 53%-27% margin people say Congressional Republicans will be more at blame than Obama, with 12% saying both sides should be equally blamed. Among independent voters, 52% would blame Republicans and 21% would point fingers at the president."

Should we "recheck" the numbers?
Or are the Republicans not going to see the writing on THIS wall either?

EXACTLY! Which is why the Repubs. need to give the Dems. whatever they want. The libs have the Senate and the presidency so they will get their way eventually. So let the dems. have it, just scream bloody murder while you let them have their way.

Then it can be the Obama tax cuts for the middle.
Leaving the GOP to whine about more handouts for the wealthy.
