An Oregon baker could face legal action after turning away a lesbian couple who sought a cake for their forthcoming wedding.

As KATU first reported, Sweet Cakes Bakery owner Aaron Klein admitted he denied a lesbian bride-to-be service after she visited his shop on Jan. 17. The woman who filed the complaint tells the station that she had previously purchased a wedding cake from Sweet Cakes for her mother, and was only refused after she specified that this cake was for a same-sex wedding.

PRIVATE business.. they can choose who they want to sell to - for no reason.

if they don't want to sell to a female/male couple - up to the business to choose that.

walk on down to the next bakery...

how can there be ANY kind of law-suit?

and if the woman wins and the baker HAS to bake for them - can you imagine how many times the baker spits in the batter? ;-)

What does a negro lunch counter have to do with a baker not baking a cake for someone?

Oh yes, I remember, liberals want to make the rules for everyone no matter what individuals want. So much for the pursuit of happiness and being your own boss.

agreed.

just move on and go to another bakery.

I get it - its the principle of the thing - but there comes a point where you cant litigate everything that dosnt go exactly your way.

if this went to trail and i was on this jury, i would side with the baker just for making me take time off of work to deal with kind of petty bullsh*t!!

Everything, Blackhorse, everything. Lemme know when you get it.

I'd be irritated to be on that jury.

So by law they have no reason to refuse service to Lesbians, but what would a Lawyer Know!

What Conditions Allow a Restaurant to Refuse Service?
There a number of legitimate reasons for a business to refuse service, some of which include:

Patrons who are unreasonably rowdy or causing trouble
Patrons that may overfill capacity if let in
Patrons who come in just before closing time or when the kitchen is closed
Patrons accompanied by large groups of non-customers looking to sit in
Patrons lacking adequate hygiene (e.g. excess dirt, extreme body odor, etc.)
In most cases, refusal of service is warranted where a customer’s presence in the restaurant detracts from the safety, welfare, and well-being of other patrons and the restaurant itself.

The Federal Civil Rights Act guarantees all people the right to "full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, and accommodations of any place of public accommodation, without discrimination or segregation on the ground of race, color, religion, or national origin."

The right of public accommodation is also guaranteed to disabled citizens under the Americans with Disabilities Act, which precludes discrimination by businesses on the basis of disability.

Otherwise, it is discrimination!

Yes, it should be your right to go to the emergency room, force that hospital to treat you, and then declare bankruptcy when the bill comes in. FREEEEEEEDOMMMM!!!!!!!!!!

It might be different if you walked into a place that doesn't serve crabby old white guys.

But then, I wouldn't sue over it.

100% wrong BD, they are going to sue for discrimination and they will win, you can't discriminate against people period.

If it were me being sued by the lesbians, I would go out of business, spend my money and start somewhere else. I would change venues so often, it would make it so expensive for the lesbians, they would give up.

What are public accommodations?
A. A public accommodation is a private entity that owns, operates, leases, or leases to, a place of public accommodation. Places of public accommodation include a wide range of entities, such as restaurants, hotels, theaters, doctors' offices, pharmacies, retail stores, museums, libraries, parks, private schools, and day care centers. Private clubs and religious organizations are exempt from the ADA's title III requirements for public accommodations.
