To the parent who got up at last night’s meeting and spoke eloquently, passionately and intelligently about what’s going on in the elementary schools in west islip: It’s not you. We all heard how your points were dismissed. We all saw and heard the boe’s vp hold her hand to her heart and say she “felt and shared in your pain and concern” then went on and on and on to shift blame, make excuses and even blame the state of NY. Your suggestions were reasonable and simple, yet every one of them was met with an excuse or dismissal. So thank you for giving 2000 of wi’s elementary school students a voice and for allowing the vp to remind us all that she’s running for re-election this May.

I'm curious as to what's going on in ES since I dont have kids this year in there. I talk to my neighbors all the time (Manetuck) and they are all happy that things are going so well despite the hysteria last year. Thanks

It's not that the people running the elementary schools, Principals and staff and teachers aren't doing everything in their power to make this sardine can experience better than it is. It's hard to mask the smell and taste of sardines when you're crammed into the can so tightly. So I doubt your "neighbors" are happy that things are going so well. For the taxes we pay we should be experiencing a tax break after two schools are shut down, instead we see increases in our taxes while we give the entire store away to the new occupants of our now shuttered schools. Disgusting.

Nevermind I was looking for an intelligent answer, not the normal drival on Topix. BTW my "neighbors" are not the type to not speak up so your quotations are ridiculous & juvinille

What you were looking to do is undermine "miasmomma" and the parent who stood before the BOE and community to communicate the TRUTH about what is going on inside our elementary schools. You admit you don't have a child in the ES, but yet you have the audacity to speak for your "neighbors" which is hearsay. If you were there last night you heard the truth. None of your so called neighbors got up to speak last night did they? NO! And you claim your so called neighbors are not the type to not speak up.

Today I was told the parent who spoke last evening is the vice president of bayview elementary's PTA. Does anyone know if this is true? Please don't post her name. I'm sure it took a great deal of courage for her to speak out the way she did.

You are totally wrong here. I was asking because I would like to know exactly what the issues are not a blanket "sardine can" answer. In no way was I trying to undermine Mia's post. I'm sorry you are such an angry person.

She speaks all the time at boe meetings, has a good relationship with the boe members and has always been very supportive. If you were actually listening to the conversation last night, you would realize that she is looking to work with the board and administration to improve conditions. She is not a topix or patch gossip monger, and if your looking to make her into that you are barking up the wrong tree.

If you got the answers you were looking for from your qualified neighbors, why waste your time here? You accused people of "hysteria" last year. Your choice of words is meant to cause anger, it's meant to inflame those who do know the sardine can answer all too well.

You're right. If she said that she had kids in Manatuck and they are doing well, you would be correct. That is not what she stated.
She used second hand information to speak or Manatuck. She also portrayed people from last year as hysterical. That is the grip I got!

Oh, I see, you object to second hand information? Yet you are posting on topix? Kettle meet pot. Btw, portraying the nonsense from last year as hysterical would be kind and generous. People from last year were blistering idiots.

Hey $$it for brains, for the taxes we pay, things at Manatuck shouldn't be just ok. If you are willing to settle for ok, you're either stupid or you don't give a $$it about anything.

The VP that you are talking about was the only one who addressed her concerns. Mr. Simon was the one that completely dismissed her. If you were there you would know that. You also would know that the VP that you love to hate went and spoke directly to the Bayview mothers who got up and spoke. We are all having the same problem in the elementary schools regarding the cafeterias. Hopefully they can come up with a reasonable solution. If you spent time discussing this issue with the VP you would know that she has a lot of great ideas on how to make this problem disappear such as sending the kids back to their classrooms during indoor recess.

Isn't she the same VP that you loved to hate last year?

I disagree with you Dannie. I have 2 in Manetuck and it's very overcrowded. The the overall experience my boys had in Manetuck last year and what they are experiencing this year is vastly different in a negative way. It's not just the additional students in the building. The new principal is having difficulty adjusting to teachers students and parents alike which makes for a very stressful environment for one and all. Our P.T.A. does a wonderful job trying to make Manetuckt more carefree with events and such. But sadly I believe Manetuck won't ever be the happy carefree school it once was for the boys and girls.

Wow, sending the kids BACK to the same classrooms they're in for the other five and a half hours a day---what a GREAT idea Annmarie! Where does she propose to come up w/the extra $ to hire the extra aides to WATCH the kids while they spend their recess back in their classrooms or is she expecting the teachers to jump at the chance to cut their own lunch breaks in half! What an assinine idea. According to the one mother there's a lot more of a problem in the elementary schools than just crowded cafeterias. Don't kid yourself the only reason she spoke to the mothers after the meeting is to phoney up to them to get another 2 votes in May. Hey maybe Annmarie can have all the kids spend recess running up and down the halls of her new preschool at Westbrook!
