I know they're banned and a ticketable offense in some areas in other states. I doubt it would be too difficult to pass a local ordinance against the use of them.

Problems is that unenforced laws are ignored, and ignored laws encourage disregard for all other law. And so our nation continues to decline.

Since ballots aren't working, perhaps it is time to consider the use of more bullets.

If only. Our nation has lost its balls. It's sad when you shoot a home invader and then can get convicted for assault for defending your home and yourself. And people wonder why crime keeps increasing.

Please....if this happens again know that the cut off time for loud music is 11pm....call the cops every 15 minutes.....video tape the party from your house and bring it to the town...once you complain enough the code enforcement will come to the house. Place a formal complaint with the town, get signatures of other neighbors who are also going thru this...enough of this info and you should have enough of a case to sue the neighbor....i dont know what you will get out of it but maybe if this moron sees people around his home mean business he will remember how much it will cost him in lawyers fees to defend him!
Easier said then done, but I do agree that there are legal avenues one can pursue- such as this one. I must say however, that I live in the North side of Shirley & there are few blacks & hispanics (other then myself) and the music purely comes from the the obvious prevelant majority, which are white family homes- but I must say that after 1 call, they do turn down and in some cases shut down the music altogether. Noone likes a SCPO knocking on your door at anytime, much less with family and friends over. I must say, that we are very careful in following noise ordinances- including using the riding mower too early among other things. My neighbor does go over the top sometimes- but it is only 2 or 3 times a year, on those nights I crank the air conditioning unit on high & play soft relaxing music in the background to help fight off the sounds, and it does work for us. One of course has to exercise some form of adatpation and let neighbors have their fun, it it's only but a few nights a year. The fellow with the bango playing neighbor should of course like the other poster suggested, perhaps look for other ways of dealing with that hostility.

What's funny is that those who identify w/ the loud music victims probably either have or could easily afford much louder sound systems than their noisy neighbors. I once treated my rapping neighbors to a Blue Oyster Cult education.

While I hate noisy neighbors, half of me is just angry that I can't sleep through it. I know I can sleep during sensory-overload (e.g. friend's couch while watching TV, or at the beach in the sun), or in complete silence and darkness. So, why not in-between??

I am a noisy neighbor. I like to play my music, movies and video games late at night. I have a very inconsiderate neighbor on the other side of a paneling-wall, who's kid constantly bangs on my wall to shut me up. I used to turn my volume down when he would bang, but then he caught on to this new power, and decided to bang on the wall if he heard ANYTHING. Now, his mother has taken the habit of calling the police on me, instead of just relocating him to a different room in her apartment. Of course, the police don't ticket me or anything, because they understand my suffering...

I work nights. I refuse to live my night-time life in perfect silence for the sake of ignorant crybabies, who get up at 5 or 6AM to go start their backhoe, or pull out the hammer and nails and deprive me of much-needed sleep at 9 or 10AM. They have the arrogance to tell me that I should be up already. That I'm lazy. That I should go live in the woods. That they are well within the laws, and I am the problem. That I should get a responsible job (when I make more than they do).-If I didn't work at night to keep their phone+internet running, how would they deal with a heart-attack at midnight with no dial tone? I need sleep in order perform my job well, too. These daytime-dwellers feel righteous, starting their boats at 11AM.

To hell with night-time consideration. Screw you! I just bought a nice BIG SUBWOOFER!! HA! HA! HA!

PS. The Suffolk County 7th Precinct does not have a decibel meter (I asked when they came). Good luck on getting me to pay any fines!

I get off at 1:30AM. I'll be testing the new sound system tonight with Saving Private Ryan. All are welcome :-)

I feel really sorry about the situation. as a hispanic I just can give you one advise take them to court, a juge is the only person who may will help to solve the problem, some time my people think the are still living back in country from were they came from and law some times is the only thing that would scare them , and if with that is a fine of $2-5,000 that would hurt.

Nice punctuation and grammar. I've always been "ina cage" of societal misconception and contempt. Night-timers don't always start loud. Often times, they are provoked into shamelessly depriving your sleep. When you mow your lawn at, say 10AM, knowing that your neighbor works 2nd or 3rd shift, and justify yourself by saying that "the rest of the world is awake now" or "normal people should be up now" or "get a normal job"; You are BEGGING to wake up, in the middle of the night, to the sounds of bongos, power tools and ground-shaking suround-sound. If you should then ask your neighbor to keep it down, I hope he says something like, "normal people should be up now" or "get a normal job". Not that it would finally make sense to you, but that I would just be tickled to witness your absolute frustration.

If you had a bit of respect and consideration, you could hold off on blowing leaves until around 2 or 2:30. But oh no, not you.. Why should you have to alter your life AT ALL for someone who causes this strain by choosing to be different (from you - only)?!

In the end, it is well-agreed that this topic is popular. That means there are a lot of night-timers around. Maybe not as small a percentage of the community as you think. Perhaps, if you considered them as part of the whole, instead of the problem within the whole, you could dig deeper into your own values and ethics to see if some human respect can be found.

well- all i can say is loud does come in all colors- the reason i'm looking at this forum now was because i wanted to find out the law on noise in my neighborhood. as i type this, there is a house full of white people allowing their 9 year old to blast rap music through the neighborhood (quite an echo)... concurrently i hear my neighbor across the street (also white) fire up his overly-loud modified mustang and roar out of here. and like clockwork, i know when he OR my other neighbor arrive- day or night... because that other neighbor drives a loud-ass diesel! and when i'm out walking my dog later, i get to hear what seems like 100 dogs barking and howling- there is a kennel less than 0.2 miles from here... ALL WHITE PEOPLE!(as am I) and ALL GETTING ON MY NERVES! yes, it is something to deal with, but dang- why can't it just be SOMETIMES? why can i NEVER sleep with my upstairs windows open at night? why must my window be closed now despite a cool spring breeze blowing? all so I can study in peace... sheesh.

The police are unwilling or unable to enforce the noise ordinance and if you shoot the little scumbag in the head, they arrest you.

Is there no middle ground? Why am I paying taxes to live in a nice quiet town away from the noise and sorrow of the city?

Every time one of these parties occurs, this places becomes a little more ghetto and bit less suburb.

If the pigs would go away, the neighbors could handle this problem themselves. But no, the scumbag lawyers and judges and cops protect the dirtbags and steal our money for no service.

Typical. Time to start shooting folks. Start at the courthouse and work your way out from there.

WTF??? I live on a block where there is a house full of unruley, unrespectful BLACKS who throw very loud parties, damage peoples properties and have no respect for anyone who has been living there for years...the last time we complained they didnt stop the loud thumping window shaking music until almost 2AM!!!!!! I believe the code enforcement did come by but what good will that do if charges arent filed? Something tells me they are planning another party!!
Wow...you could be my neighbor! I, too have the same problem. My P.O.S's even leave their drug bags & their alcohol containers on my property for me. They are out at all hours. Their young children run all over like animals. One little three year old has narrowly missed being hit by a car for their lack of concern too many times to count. CPS has been called, but they are most likely just waiting on a body. The house is so filthy that one medic I know who was called to the house said he would not go in b/c the floor was moving (roaches). The town, the cops, the landlords....no one will do anything about it. And as far as the ingenious idea of putting up a "For Sale" sign....well, the realtors will not list any houses on this block due to that one house. Any other ideas?

NO I wouldnt be complaining because when I was growing up most WHITE residents had respect for one another...being that my neighborhood is majority black/hispanic these people have NO RESPECT..its how they are raised....Their attitude is "you get my respect when you respect me"...f'n BS
White people are disrespectful, too. Yes, it often has to do with how people are raised but the color of their skin has nothing to do with it. Perhaps if you weren't so racist and judgmental, your neighbors might be more respectful of you. Racism is a form of disrespect so you're not exactly leading by example.

There's so much confusion these days. We have alot of troublemakers in this country. But thank God, things have a way of working out somehow.

I just wanted to say that I am Hispanic. But I do agree with the people complaining of the loud music. I listen to Latin music myself. but lately I'm starting to hate Latin music too. I grew up in NYC and then moved to long island. I do believe the saying that when in Rome do as the romen. These are people of low class. I would sign anything to stop the loud music. So ask around you might be surprise who will sign. I have called the police on my Latin neighbors. I don't care if anybody knows that called. I wish that the towns would grab there balls and enforced the noise laws. I am ready to start bothering our law makers.
