Has everyone forgotten that all these kids were on all kinds of drugs including Thomas Hertberg the driver who was kille. None of these kids had intentions of killing someone. Jack Barretta is the reason Hertzberg is dead. So are all the rap videos that glorify guns drugs and money, no one ever gets killed in a rap video. Long Island has been invaded by gangs from nyc and they brought the oxycontin which is synthetic heroin to our town, the problenm is you can warn your kids about drugs but once they are hooked they have no control over themselves. Any one getting involved in a drug deal knows they are taking their life into their hands. Putting the 18 year old kid in a maximum security prison will not solve the problems and unfortunatley for the Hertzberg family it will not bring their son back. The sentence for the two boys who did not fire the fatal shot is insane for a first offense. These are not bad kids, the drugs got control of them. In 18 years though they are sure to be be professional criminals, because they will learn what they live in there. The woman who strangled her husband to death faces 1st degree murder and shes out on bail!! Never get in trouble in an election year in suffolk county, the most corrupt county goverment i know. These boys need to be punished, but life in jail for the boys who did not shoot at the car window is insane,5 families were destroyed here ,the sentence needs to be reuced to something realistic so these kids can change their lives and possibly help other kids. No disrespect to the Hertzbergs, but their son was also running with a bad crowd, but we cant protect our kids when they go out with their friends and where drugs are involved.

This is not a case to determine who was wrong or right. what happened happened there is nothing we can say or do to change that. Oxy Contin has become an epidemic among the youth, Did this drug play such an integral role on this case?...absolutely it did. But i blame media as corny as it sounds it played such a strong role by glamorizing what a "gangsta" is. All of these kids grew up in decent house-hold with decent incomes. I happen to know each one of them personally and i will tell you first hand that none of them were handed any cards in life that were unbearable to overcome. They were submerge and caught up in a life-style that was a giant front. The drugs must have altered there decisions at the same time also. All i could say is that a beautiful person that had time to contribute things to the world was taken from us....-Thank You

You don't need to be a bad person through and through to make a bad decision. But unfortunately, the way this world works, when you make a bad decision that leads to the MURDERING of someone, your background doesn't mean much anymore. I could be a great guy, but if I go into your house with a friend to burglarize it, and my friend shoots your mother/father/brother/sister to death while I stand by doing nothing...does it really matter that I was a good person? This is the reason why America is in such as sad state today, nobody wants accept the fact that INDIVIDUALS are responsible for their own actions. Don't blame it on society, don't blame it on the peer pressure. Come on people, this isn't fucking Somalia, it's holbrook. Nobody forced these kids into the lifestyle they were living. They chose it because they were idiots. Plain and simple. Kids make it out like their life is so bad growing up in central long island. They make their own crime. Are they blind to the fact that most of their classmates grow up to be clean and successful? Do they do so many drugs that they actually hallucinate that their little gangsta crew is growing up in BX or south central? LOL
