I was in this store in May and noticed all of these Gibson guitars were fake. I noticed that they all had grafted headstocks and heels. When I brought this to his attention, he told me they were from a different factory. I diddn't buy his answer and left never to go back again. He also had fake fender decals and fake fender guitars.

I recently bought one of these "fake" gibson's and it looks like these manufacturers are reading the articles too.
I found the website and paid a total of $290.00 u.s. dollars, that included shipping. I new it was a gamble when I sent the money, assuming I'd get a guitar that would sit nicely on my desk. Oh well, lesson learned right?
So this thing shows up about 3 weeks later, and I truly hate to admit it.... It's better than the "real thing".
I took it down to a local music store, 1; to compare and 2; to let them know that these things are out there so don't take one in on trade.
Here's the comparison: The fake had better inlay work, better binding work, finish was flawless, and was $2300 cheaper than the american version.
So I take it home and plug it in... pickups suck, wiring sucks, etc. So I put $200.00 worth of electronics in it and shazam! better than the real thing.
Do note that I don't condone selling a fake as a real thing. Besides being illegal it is very un-ethical. I know what I bought, and I'm o.k with it. Sure this doesn't help out Gibson, Fender, PRS, etc. However over the last 15 years or so guitars moved from being musical instruments to being collectors items.$2600 for a les paul custom (by the way don't let the word "custom" fool you... they pump out tens of thousands of those babies every year) Out of space.

I have owned many LP's over the years and I came across a fake from the factory in China. I thought...what the hell...for $365.00 delivered I will see what the fuss is all about. I expected this to be a piece of crap like I have heard about...plywood, plastic, etc...but you know what! This think is sexy. That is the only way to describe it. It is a Les Paul supreme...that has a flame on the top and back that makes my PRS 10top look like crap. The pickups are not as hot as a Les Paul, but after replacing them with some PAF's...right as rain. The weight is exact...I even put it on a scale, and its to the oz. The case is correct, the serial number is not a real serial number, but out side of that...it is a great guitar. The one thing I had done to it, other than changing the pickups was taking it and having it PLEK'D. If you donít know what this is...you must have this done to your guitar. Every real Gibson comes with this already done...but if you have any other guitar, it is amazing. It will make it seem like another guitar all-together. Here is their web-site and the info... www.plek.com Anyway...so I have spent when its all said and done $365.00 for the guitar and shipping,$225 for the two PAF's, and $85.00 for the PLEK, and this thing is a beast! The Gibson rep here is a good friend of mine, and the last time he was in town I had him check this thing out. He was amazed that they are getting this good at the knock-offs, and that other than the serial number, he could not tell a difference. While over the years I have spent tens of thousands of dollars with Gibson and PRS, it is sad that a company in China with a CNC machine can do what they do and charge so much less. The down side is that in a short while these will be all over the market and sooner or later they will start using real Serial #'s instead of the fakes, and no one will know which is real and which is not. Anyway...I like my cheap knock-off...and if it ever gets stolen...I am only out about $675.00 instead of $5000.00 Later!!!!!!!

I got a LP custom that someone pawned. The pickups were changed but the wiring sucks. A complete rewiring, pots every thing is a must. I'm in it $526.00 way less than the $3800 for a real one. And 99% of the people out there can't tell the differance.

I recently Aquired a "Fake" Les Paul custom. Where ever this was built, the builder must have read these articles on how to spot a fake, because the Logo is perfect, there is only two screws in the bell, it reads LesPaul in cursive, and Custom under lespaul, the binding doesnt go past the nut like a fake, and even more suprizing the back of the pickups says Gibson USA which none of the fakes do. I have a buddy with a real custom, and we laid them side by side, and even he couldnt notice anything except the wiring, and the pickup cavity is unpainted like the real Lp"s. they are exactly the same length, and weigh within grams of eachother. Once the Jap-Chinamen get the right wiring, it will be really hard to tell the diffrence. That is the only diffrence between the two we checked out. I dont know which company in china made this one, but they should close down, and come over here and get a job with gibson.

** I do not condone the sale and resale of FAKE Gibsons, I aquired this cheaply through a trade. I knew what I was getting, and have no intention of re-selling.***

I think I will let my kids beat it all to hell, and then use the gold hardware to put on my REAL 1976 Gibson that I bought when I was 18.

For the prices these guitar companies are charging for a piece of wood is criminal. Remember Slashs' Appetite Les Pauls were knockoffs (Fake Gibsons)and now Gibson is reissuing a guitar that was a copy in the first place. If these companies would charge a Fair price , This wouldnt be happening. I will buy the best guitar for MY dollar.

Well, I bought a fake lefty Black in Black Angus Young Gibson SG from China for a 250$ delivered. I knew I was getting a fake as the store price for this baby is around 3000$. When I opened the box, I couldn't believe my eyes... It really looked like the real think. High gloss black with gold trimings. I plugged it in and I was happily surprised at what I heard. I compared with my friends ''real'' SG standard for which he paid over 1100$ and there was not much a difference. I spent another 250$ for new pickups and wiring and ,,voila''... Almost the real thing for a fraction of the price. Nobody can tell the difference.
