No question who the venum-spouting clown is. The comments he writes about certain individuals and his internet experience and ability to change his topix town at will, clearly points to Rob Thornton as the idiot clown. He started as Truth, morphed to God, then to Doink, and now to American Picker. SPD should take note, since many of his remarks are slanderous and against the law. All of us who served on the STOYAC board recognize his "style" from his STOYPAC days.

So tired of the BS that goes on in youth sports....Ability means nothing anymore!!! So aggravated!! Worst is having to try to explain to the kid why he/she didn't make the team....but Dad, I am better than some of the kids who made the team....what can you tell them? Sorry kid life just isn't fair....what else can you tell them! All depends of who you are and who you know!
Just came from 5th grade basketball game, they had divided players into 2 teams...funny how one 'team' we're all the fav's, including the coach, one kid's dad.....same kids who are on that coach's traveling baseball team. Shame on the school! But, regardless, the reject team actually won...I was so happy! Last year they invited my grandson to try out for the baseball team, made it on the traveling team, never missed a practice like most kids, then sat on the bench because we weren't part of their click. He eventually quit to play on a park district team and not ONE coach called to show concern. They act like they don't know us at school functions...thank God he won't be attending there next year!

I'm sure many people would see these comments and say they're just sour grapes from parents who don't want to accept that their kid isn't as good as other kids. However, I can attest that my son DID make All-Stars (the "A" team), and even still it is ENTIRELY about politics. A lot of players are big kids that LOOK like baseball players, but when you really get into the statistics, they tell another story. That's the real problem. My wife called this a 'false sense of celebrity-ism'. My son is not a big kid at all, and because of his birthday is usually the youngest on his teams. He doesn't hit home runs but hits, isn't a speed demon but gets on base, he doesn't throw 90 miles an hour but doesn't walk a lot of guys. But at the same time, he doesn't strikeout, he draws a lot of walks, has a great glove, and THROWS STRIKES. In other words people love the eye-candy. They disregard the kids that actually get it done, for favor of the ones that LOOK the part. And it wasn't limited to my son. We had this one kid on the team who was our big, tall, athletic kid that was supposed to be our 'star' player I guess, but all you have to do is look at the numbers. While at the same time another smaller kid finally got a chance to pitch in a scrimmage game the last week of the season and was lights out....I was like 'why hasn't this kid pitched until now?'. Oh, I forgot because he wasn't in 'the club'. Him and my son pretty much subbed the whole summer while our big, strong, starting pitchers walked away games. It's all because of a good-ole-boy network, and a reliance on not pissing off your friends, rather than looking at the real statistics and what will help us win. Numbers don't lie. My son only walked 4 or 5 batters the ENTIRE summer, and during the Spring he only walked 4 batters in his last 6 games pitched...and 3 were in his final game (he had an off night). We have all-star pitchers walking 3 to 4 PER INNING. And I can't tell you how many times one of our starters walked up a 7,8,9 run lead for the other team, and then almost forced to, our coach put in my son to stop the bleeding. You may ask what am i complaining about. Hell at least we made all-stars right? We broke through so there's no politics to worry about anymore right? Well, because you could tell that we didn't fit in with the "click" that was the rest of the parents save the one other kid's parents. There was already an established click that had played all-stars for years before, and it seems that was more important than playing and watching baseball. At the end the day, my son had a blast, and he's not aware of these issues that the parents make thank God. But I did find out later from another parent that he was selected for all-stars as "a project" by the coach. What the hell does that mean? That would imply he didn't deserve to be there? Like I said the statistics are the statistics. You can make excuses all you want but at the end of the day, I can look at our runner-up trophy from one of our tournaments, and remember that it was MY son that was brought in to pitch the last inning, and extra inning of the semi-final game, and held them to zero hits, zero walks, zero runs, that gave us a chance to win that game and make it to the championship and get that runner-up trophy. It was MY small, non-flashy son that gave the team their only hardware for the summer!!!! Stats are stats. And by the way, I am a coach and have coached for some years now. And I will do whatever I can for my son, but refuse to deal with such nonsense from other coaches and players. So now you can know that there ARE POLITICS regardless of how good your children might be. It's a shame that grown-ups have to play these games. I don't give a shit about being in anyone else's club or click. I just wish it could be about baseball and the kids.

I know, your children must be younger. I had parents come up to me and ask in wonder why my son didn't make the all-star team even though he had the most RBI's, the lowest ERA as a reliever and had hit several home runs. His Dad isn't a coach. In fact, we were both at tryouts at 8am on a sunday and they already knew who was on the team! Hang in there. If your kids are good, they will make the team when they get olders. Coaches at higher levels want to win - there's no more place for the coaches' sons

I wish that were true in Saugus, the politics play right into middle and high school. Parents continue to get involved with the coaching one way or another.
