Hello all. My husband and I are hoping to retire in the next few years. We bought a foreclosed lot in Ranch of The Golden Horse sight on seen. We had been researching the area for some time and felt like it was a good match for us. We want to get back to a remote area around conservative minded independent people. Can anyone here tell me more about the area? I noticed some old posts had posters that said they lived in Ranch of The Golden Horse. Our lot is on Mountain View Road. Hoping we can buy more land or adjacent lots as well since we are used to 10 acres but one is all we could swing right now. Counting the days until we can get out of this depressing place we ended up in due to my husbands job. Thanks!

you should like it here a lot. There are many closed minded, excuse me, conservative, minded people. Mostly mormons, natives, cowboys, and illegals. The weather can be crazy in the spring. Tie down anything that's not over 50 lbs. Our trampoline ripped out of its ties and cleared two rows of houses and many fences to end up almost half a mile away. It can snow one day and be 50 degrees or warmer the next day. Be wary of wild life. Bears, mountain lions, and bobcats are not uncommon. Coyotes, elk and deer are plentiful. You will need 4-wheel drive to get the most out of the area. I have lived here the majority of my life. Born and grew up here. I love it and I hope you will too. Welcome!

I have lived here for over 30 years. It is a nice area if you like unpredictable weather, gun toting survivalists, no running water or electricity, no phones (cell phones won't work here), and impassable roads. Also no services like road maintenance, police, or fire. Ambulances can not travel most of the roads and you are on your own. Our neighbor had a fire and the fire truck never did show up. When I talked to the fire chief - they never got the call. They usually don't show anyway. We have 3 seasons - wind, snow and hot, hot summers (and remember no air conditioning) - no power this far out. If you like roughing it - you will love it. My neighbors on one side live in an underground house and on the other a teepee. Junk everywhere. You can do whatever you want which is great if you don't have alot of money. A friend built a straw house. It is neat. No one enforces any laws. Cows are everywhere and eat everything. you have to fence them out. If you like freedom this is the place. You can do whatever you want.
