I have been following the kidnapping case of Holly Bobo from Decatur county. Do we in Lewis County have Law Enforcemant plans if this should ever happen to us? Do we have training skills in case it ever happens? Road Blocks implemented etc? I love Lewis County, but this sure is a wake up call. To close for comfort. I wonder if it has ever been discussed to sound alarm in the city for an amber alert. We must watch out for each other. I am sure if such plans were in action, the community would pull together also. I have all faith in our LE, they do a very good job. Would love to hear from others in the county on this issue, especially LE. Are we prepared?
Thanks

I would hope that each town, city & county has a plan of action if it ever occurs. If you take notice it seems to be on the rise. Awareness is important.

Instructions
Things You'll Need
An awareness of your surroundings.
A willingness to learn.
Confidence in yourself.

1
Whenever you are out, especially at night, you need to be aware of your surroundings. Keep your head up and your mind on what and who is around you. A potential attacker is looking for someone who is preoccupied, has their mind on other things, looking down, or too trustworthy. Learn to carry yourself with confidence and strength! Attackers want someone who is timid and has low self-esteem, for they know you will be an easy target and won't fight back.

2
Have your house well lit at night in the front and back yards. Make sure locks are working properly, keep drapes pulled at night and windows locked. Never, ever leave a spare key hidden outside your house. Attackers know people do this, and may have even watched you get yours. It is better to leave a key with a neighbor in case you lock yourself out. If you are going out for awhile, make sure a family member or a neighbor knows when you will be returning, watched out for each other, call the police if you see anyone suspicious. Its better to be safe than sorry.

3
When traveling in your car, keep car doors locked. Always stop a distance back from the car in front of you in case you need to "get away from someone who approaches your car". Women, never place your purse on the passenger seat! If your window is down or your doors unlocked, someone can come up to your car when you are stopped and reach in and grab your purse. Always keep it by you or out of sight. You can buy pepper spray that will attach to your keys, very helpful if a situation would arise where you are grabbed and you need to get away. Spray directly into the attackers face, this will give you time to get away from the situation.

4
You can also take a self defense class. This is a great too for any woman. You will learn so much and build your self confidence. I took the R.A.D. system self defense classes and I learned so much, very empowering. You will learn different techniques you can use to get away from an attacker, Hits, strikes, kicks, how to get out of a choke hold, etc. Of course you should never try to fight your attacker. If you have an opportunity to run and get away do that, its never okay to stay and "fight" them. The one thing you want to do is get away, always run when you are able to do so. Only use these moves if you are grabbed and can't get away.

5
Remember, so very important, if you act like a victim, others will see that in you. Hold your head up when in public, Show your self confidence. This could make the attacker think twice about attacking you, after all they are looking for a "victim"! Just always know that you are capable of getting yourself away from an attacker, take a self defense class, it will empower you.
