Why does the NY Times think this is news when The Lewis Herald does not? Excellent article on the lawsuit.

I'm surprised by the lack of coverage. "Self-Dealing" is a serious issue when you are a member of the board of directors for a non-profit. As a Donor, I am ever so thankful that Ms. Buckley took a stand to this unforgivable action. However, I was deeply dismayed when the board lashed out in return by dismissing the gal who caught the board member in the act of enriching herself via her husband's business. A business that was to have done work on a pro Bono basis. I would think the local newspapers would have interest in this. I'm sure that there are countless good fair mind people that will want to avoid this type of disregard in their boardrooms regardless if the business is a for profit or non-profit charity. I would think the community would find the news of a locally based charity board member caught with their manicured hand in the charity till to pass funds off to her hubby worthy of some investigative reporting. Self-Dealing is forbidden by Law!!

I, too, am very surprised about the lack of news coverage there. These are serious charges here, people! As a supporter and donor, I am so proud of Carol Buckley taking this out in a court of law while she continues to do what she has always done....be there for the elephants. She will be leaving on a trip to Asia in a few weeks bringing her expertise to so many and helping the elephants there. Hopefully, this will be over soon and she will be with her Tarra and all the other elephants there in the Sanctuary.

Beth, maybe it would be more news worthy if the person with their hand in the cookie jar did not hail from the state of Tennessee. Perhaps they do not understand that self dealing is not legal. I certainly hope that these people are not condoning the act of self dealing. I sincerely wonder why they are sluggish to report on their own but quickly jumped on "The Oustering" of Carol Buckley. Now where is the coverage about those engaged in acts of self dealing by a board member of a non profit? Self dealing is on the same level as theft to most people who understand the laws as the apply to such dealings. Donors do not donate finds so a board member can write check to her hubby or any other family member. This is especially insulting as the hubby had already agreed to provide services Pro Bono!!
