I'm thinking that money may have been an issue for some. Prom can be done alot cheaper and just as nice. I hear that prom was opened to all high school students. Maybe if the tickets were cheaped tradition could have been carried on.

I was told by a senior that attended (one of the few) that many weren't going because of all the regulations about how they can and can't dance, Ex. nothing "sensual" and that it was in the high school gym. I went to proms in the late 90's at Prichart and the tickets were the SAME price as they are now, money has NOTHING to do with it. Prom it supposed to be a fun and different experience for the kids, not an overdressed after school dance like it is now. The reason it is at the gym now is that tickets would have to be more expensive to hold it at a nicer location (which would be better attended in my opinion) but people cried that it would cost too much. Cheaper is more often than not CHEAP, if you don't believe me I will take you on a $75 cruise around the world, inner tube not included.
Well that is sad

Well, if that is the reason, that is sad. The thinking of young people today is disheartening. Entitled. Gotta be the biggest, finest, and the best. What's wrong with a good time? A memory? Jumping in there like in footloose and making it happen yourself? Naw.... you need to do it "FOR" me. Sad.

Money was part of it. I went to prom in the gym in 91. It was like $20 or $25. We had a great time. The gym looked awesome. We had alot of fun. Nice dinner before, flowers and pictures. I'm just saying that the whole thing could be done for alot less money.

$45 for a prom ticket is making or breaking the bank when you're spending $300 on dresses and $50 on flowers and $100 on a limo and $50 on a meal. That's just stupid. This is 2012 and things cost more than they did in the 90's.
