I have a buddy who is a good friend of Merle's. Merle had to commit to Turner that he would not be a candidate for the full time position and would only serve as the interim sheriff. I think Merle is a good seletion. He'll straighten out a lot of things that need it and we (the citizens) can decide who the full time Sheriff will be.

For the anti folks, I think your anger should be directed toward Shoffner. He was elected and gave it up. I doubt somebody held a gun to his head to make him resign.

In a public Election if he is qualified to run and chooses to run there is nothing no one can do, my question is will Merle suspend his retirement benefits while in office?

Mr 666, I worked 34 years in state government and retired. After 3 years I came back to work. The way the law works now is he cannot have a 2nd retirement but has to pay in to the state retirement system even though he will never get it back.

I wonder of the Jailer, Cottrill, suspended his retirement. And for that matter, what about the folks who work at the post office? Many of them are retired military and draw a govt check. Now they're working for the post office and draw a govt check. I wonder if they suspended their retirement? Interesting thought.

As for Edlin running, it will be interesting to see if he announces he will not be a candidate. It would be hard for him to say he won't be a candidate and then decide he will.

For my 2 cents, I think he's a pretty good choice. Not perfect, but a decent Sheriff.

In the last 12 years I've lived in Hardin, Hart and LaRue Counties. My job requires me to work with county officials and I've worked in 30 plus counties. I can say without reservation that the county officials in LaRue are by far the best to work with. Always willing to open their door to you, don't have to make appointments to see them, spend time with you answering questions, will go the extra mile to assist you, never talk down to you or try to make you feel dumb (you'd be surprised at how many do). I've got the personal cell phone number of the county judge, county clerk and planning and zoning administrator. Again you'd be surprised at how many of the elected officials out there don't even have their home phone number listed! More than once I've called them late at night to get a question answered. They're always polite and on two occasions in the last 4 or 5 years have even went and opened the courthouse for me at night for me to access a document. The only thing I can say is some of you don't know how good you have it. You've got public officials who manage well and serve you well. I wished all were like them.

Mr. Government thank you for answering my question and I appreciate
your response, I am sure no politician has ever broken his word in your 34 yrs as a Government Employee or a citizen.

Personally I love Merle Edlin, the cars were marked rather than the secret police we have now, no one was shot in the back for doing donughts, the calenders did not look like a military squad. His deputies where in uniform.

I didn't realize it had gotten that bad. I sure hope he gets in rehab. Hang in there Bobby. I got on meth and finally got turned around. If I can do it, you can do it! We'll say some prayers for you.

Here is the thing. Merle cannot stop bloyd or ford from going to a call but I will bet you any amount of money, there will be a deputy at every call now unless u know of course they are super busy...And I bet the deputies r not liking this...Get to work guys. Easy money for no work is gone..

I smelled a rat the minute of the election. It was already going around that Shoffner would not finish his term and that it was his wish to put Russell McCoy in his place. I did not vote for him on that account. I don't like people who sneak in the back door. So Russell didn't get it but Shoffner lied when he ran. He had no intention of staying the full term. Just Up set the apple cart.

It looks like the past has returned. Edlin is now planning on running for sheriff in 2014 and I guarantee he brings Cruse with him! I knew it was a smoke screen that he was only filling in. He had every intention of running for election when he agreed to finish Shoffner's term! Hopefully the voters put a stop to the return of the Edlin crew.

Thanks Terry. I doubt you'll be Mayor next term either.
