I think Skeptic is just tired of the 'cast a wider net' approach to diagnosing illnesses. If a child who displays skin-picking doesn't like being interrupted, and likes to stack objects, that child can be diagnosed with PDD-NOS. That might be one reason why the prevalence of autism worldwide is 1 or 2 per 1,000, yet in the United States the CDC says 9 per 1,000 are diagnosed. It doesn't make Skeptic an idiot, just a skeptic.

thank you! I also am tired of parents using their mis-diagnosed children to milk every last bit of sympathy and attention they can.
I think autism is very over-diagnosed. Many of these mis-diagnosed children have issues, but I don't think autism is one of them.
