Has anyone heard the news of a Lea County Corrections Officer killing a young man at a party? Corrections officers involved were at the party drinking on what sources say. Joshua Barrientes was shot and rushed to the hospital and died later. What kind of corrections officers are being hired now a days? Doesn't a corrections officer suppose to be of good moral character? Why would a corrections officer take a firearm to a party where they are going to drink?

Firts off,I know first hand on what it takes to be a good Correctional Officer, for every 40 that apply there will only be 15 that make the cut. You probably dont have what it takes. You sound like an ex-inmate with a grudge. YOU really shouldnt speak unless you know the whole story, not every corrections officers commit crimes. You never hear about us unless somebody screws up. We dont get the appreciation that we deserve. We keep all the rapist, drug dealers, and murders locked up so the public can sleep peacefully at night. Dont speak if you dont know!!!!!

Well I'm not blaming all corrections officers. Only the ones who try to be tough and try to handle disputes on there own. Especially the incident that happened this week at that party. Why did the corrections officer call the police to dissolve the problem? Why didn't the two or the one corrections officer have better judgement to call police and settle it in a civil manner? I'm not trying to make a bad rap for all corrections officers. I have some relatives that work in corrections and love their job. I like that line of work too but the pay is not enough for me. I can make it in a breeze to get in. I can handle conflicts pretty well and not escalate it worst. By the way, yes I do know what goes on and no I am not a ex con with a grudge. Just like to have conflicts settle in a just manner.

I toally agree with Chivo786, Not all correction officers are alike. It sounds like to me that both parties were at fault. It's sad but true. First off why did a corrections officer have a gun at a party, and second why did Josh leave and then return a few hours later after he had already had a fight go on. To me they were both looking for trouble. It's sad but true. My heart goes out to Josh's family. My god be wih you in this time of need.

What has recently happened to this young man is not fair. If this correction officer was such a tough guy - then why didn't he settle it with his fist instead of with a weapon. You also need to keep in mind that the story that you are hearing is from Joe Garcia's side of the story that he gave to the detectives. You will never get to hear the story from a dead man. So please keep in mind that the family of Joshua Barrientes might read all your comments. Please don't make judgements of Josh because you will never get to hear his side.

If you want to see what kind of correction officers are being hired go to KRQE_Albuquerque, NM to see a picture of this so called officer and pictures of the vehicle that Joshua Barrientes was in when he was brutely shot, and the shooter saying that he was just trying to scare the young man. BS if he wanted to scare the two young men why didn't he shot at the tires.Joe Garcia left the apartments with intention to commit a crime.

Well none the less, I know both guys that were arrested and they were damn good correctional officers but they did the unthinkable and should be held accountable for their actions. I just hate that two people can tarnish the image of todays Correctional staff who work hard day in and day out for their community and families. My heart does go out to the Barrientes family as well as my friends who threw their lives away for nothing....

I never implied that what happend was fair. Lord knows it was far from fair. I just said that both parties were at fault as sad as it is to admit. The two guys that got arrested should have never had the gun in there possesion in the first place. They should only have those when they are on duty. The only way we will hear the other side of the story is if someone was with Josh when this happend. Those guys to get the worst punishment ever for the fact the were apart of the law and knew what they were doing was wrong. Once again my heart goes out to Josh's family and friends. What a sad tragedy.

I am a famiy member and my heart breaks to hear you imply that it was joshua's fault too. He did not deserve to die! He was leaving the fight and walked away from the arguement, but the guys followed him, by vehicle,GOODNESS, he was right around the block of his appartment complex going home. HE WAS SHOT. Not them, they are alive and were not shot at, so why would it be josh's fault? When he was simply leaving...get your facts straight. Yes, he did go back to the same complex once before, but he was at a family members house, he was making sure they were in no danger. Cause that is how he was, making sure family came first and everyone was safe. Dont make assumptions on someone you dont know. Let him rest in peace...

I never said Josh deserved to die. No one deserves to die especially the way this young man did. I'm sorry you felt that is what I was implying. I just said that both parties were at fault. I think it would have been a better judgement call on his part to call the family or have the police go check on them if he felt they were in danger. That way he would not have been put in the situation of being in the fight again. I think the guys that shot this young man are cowards for not trying to solve this in a different way. Why not fight even without the gun? That would have saved alot of heartache. It's good to know that he thought of his family and there safety before his own. Franckly i'm glade they caught the cowards who did this and they are not free to work in our law enforcement. Lord knows what else would be going on. They think just because they work in law enforcement that they are above and beyond the law. I'm so sorry for your lose. May god be with this whole family.

Please for my families sake stop all the bickering back and forth. All families involved are hurting right now. My baby brother wasnt only a wonderful dad to Taylin and Seth but as a single mother he helped me raise my kids too. My oldest son Sebastian had to look at him and say good-bye and it broke his heart because he understood that he will never have his tio again. This pain should never be inflicted on anyone but it did happen. To the men that did this to my baby bro my heart goes out to ur families because i do know how it feels to have a brother on the verge of being sent to the pin. The last thing all our families need to hear or see is all this animosity with this situation. My brother was a very forgiving person and would not want anyone to be angy right now. And as far as correctionsl officers are concerned...I worked at that prison for 3 years and its not the prisons fault. The men who were involoved just made some bad last minute decisions. Nothing can ever bring my baby bro back. Just please respect all families involved and not put anymore angry words on this site.

I am so sorry for your lose please don't blame yourself, it could have happend anywhere if it was gods will. He put your brother her in your life for a reason and god felt he did his job and was ready for him to come home to his savior. This probably would have happend somewhere else if not there. I know how it feels to lose a loved one, I have never lost a sibling but I lost my mom 11 years ago.In deepest sympothy.

Jessica, I'm sorry to hear about Josh. I remember the last time I talked to him he had sebastian under his arm. He grew up a lot since I first met him. I hope you will find comfort in knowing tha Josh is with God and he will always watch over his own. God bless your family.
