Does anyone know what happen to Camp 28 in Rib Lake? That place always had the best Prime Rib in the area along with really nice owners and workers. We stopped there on April 16 and were completely shocked by the terrible Prime Rib and extremely rude owners.
What happen? It was one of the worst experiences I ever had in a restaurant.
I had referred many people to that place and its now off my list of things to do.
Ted and Jean Koplin have no Idea how to run a restaurant.
Both of them are the rudest people I have ever met in that business. I witnessed them kick 5 men out on April 16 just for asking why the Prime Rib had so much fat on it. Throw them right out using very vile words toward these men

my wife and 2 children frequent camp 28, usually once a week. Camp 28 switched ownership in january I believe, and since the switch has occured, my family and I have noticed some very possitive changes... It has always been a nice place to eat, but it needed a little tlc. That is what I think has been the biggest improvement in the past months that the Koplin family has made. They have expanded the menu, and offer a variety of different items. The steaks are especially great! My family and I LOVE the prime rib buffet! They have a wonderful staff, and the owners are always present to thankfully serve their customers.

If they are such good people why did they throw 5 guys out for asking a question These men spent over $160.00 in there and were treated terrible.

Great place to eat and drink! I give it 4 stars myself! The atmosphere is great, beautiful view of the lake while you dine, and the staff is very friendly. If you are in the area give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

KInd of funny no one ever rated this place until I gave it a thumbs down now everyone is giving it high ratings Kind of fishy. Maybe the owner's are the one's rating it so high cause this place has taken a nose dive.

Yes, I am the one who posted as "Former Friend of Camp 28"
I just spoke with Ted (Owner) of Camp 28 and am very satisfied that he and Jean are extremely concerned about their customers and business. Perception is everything. I would like to apologize to all of the folks there for my comments(Unfortunately I cannot delete them) and any mis-statements.(And my downright meanness which for me is quite unusual) As I told Ted, I have never commented like this before but my perceptions was skewed by the circumstances. We feel so close to Camp 28 that it was very emotional to experience the perceived change.(Also very unusual for me)
I see now that what I said was unfair because I did not give Ted and Jean the opportunity to address the issue before I went public. That is 100% my error so I hope they can get past that in the future when we DO come back to Camp 28.
Let me share a couple GOOD things just to be fair...
The new menu has many nice options and they brought back Salmon! We really look forward to that. Breakfast was very good and included nice deserts on the buffet! The wait staff in the restaurant was very nice to us. The rooms are always clean. The bartender (owner’s son) was apparently a better bartender than I was a guest so I fall on my sword for that one too.

I would like to especially apologize to Jean for what I said. She may never fully forgive me and I can't blame her if she doesn't. I did not intend it to be personal but I can image it felt that way. It sounds like she really cares about the business so I am sure she can understand how much we do too, hence my over reaction. I would love to see their business flourish and would take back my mean comments if I could.

I hope that some good can come from this in the long run. As I stated, perception is everything when it comes to making happy customers.

If they are willing to work on their presentation, which they are based on the personal call I recieved today from Ted, I am willing to work on my perception.

We are coming back in August and hope we can get a fresh start and get to know the folks there better if they are willing.

I have eaten at camp 28 twice for lunch during the week, and was impressed by the great food both times. The waitress never saw us in her life, but the second time we went there, she remembered the beverages we had the first time, and was very friendly. The steak sandwich was to die for! It was huge, and I could hardly pick it up to eat it. I had to trim some off both sides. I want to try their prime rib buffet, so will let you know how that turns out.

My wife and I went to Camp 28 Saturday night for their Corned Beef and Cabbage Special. It was the best we have ever eaten! The corned beef was so tender it melted in your mouth. Soup and salad bar was outstanding. Service was awesome. If you have not tried Camp 28 it's your loss..

Congrats to new owners/operaters of Camp 28, we had a great weekend stay at the motel. Our family held a reunion at the Lakeview Campgrounds/Park and had a full house of guest staying at Camp 28. Rooms were very clean, and fresh. Facility and grounds were clean and well kept, lake view was wonderfull and relaxing. The bar had a good bar tender and pizzas were more that filling. Saturday and Sunday continental breakfast was extremly good. Nice selection of beverages, fresh fruit, bakery and more. I understand the full resturant will open soon, can't wait to stop in to try it out. The wait staff was pleasant and took care of any concerns we may have had. Good luck to the new owners, and look forward to a return stay.
