Apparently, sometime around 8:30pm on Saturday January 13, 2007 the mall was shut down due to an incident that occurred in the movie theater. I have heard there were as few as 7 and as many as 18 people involved with a fight within the theater, police officers were chasing people through the mall (finding some in a restroom of a department store), the parking lot filled with police cars (almost outnumbering the number of patrons' cars), blood was supposedly evident on the floor of the mall, and in the midst of all this I have also heard that 2 people on a motorcycle were hit by a vehicle at another place in the front mall parking lot. Yet, I have not been able to find a single thing on the internet about any such incidents. Can anyone confirm or deny any of these incidents? I'm very curious as to exactly what happened.

What I heard was that there was a shooting in the theatre and 1 person was killed.(do not if that's true) but a woman in the supermarket was saying that they (meaning the authorities) was going to keep this quiet because they did not want to bring negativity to Douglasville (and the Arbor Place Mall) which if that is the case then that is insane because we need to know what is going on in our community.

Ok... so I heard all about this during church and all, but I didn't believe a word of it. Supposedly a whole bunch of gang fights were happening at the mall and that one memeber took out a gun and tried to shoot it but it got jammed. It doesn't make any sense that it wasn't on the news or anything. I searched the internet and this is the only information I could find. I am very concerned with the fact that there are so many gangs in Douglasville. It seems like it's only started to happen this year. It's crazy. Douglasville isn't Atlanta. There is no reason for the violence. It doesn't make anyone cool to throw up a gang symbol and to act like they're about to kill someone. Someone NEEDS to stop that. Our city government needs to take action. The children are going insane and it's not a good thing. If something doesn't happen soon, Douglasville will NOT be a safe place to live anymore.

And what about all the violence in school... at my school, nothing has been done to stop the gangs from forming or to stop all the drugs and such. People need to start getting involved. Douglasville is going into the pits.

high school, and I asked my uncle if anything happened at the mall and he said not that he knows of. He's an officer, so I think he would know, so this is all a blown out of proportion rumor.

There was an incident at the mall. I spoke with a mall employee who confirmed a fight which shut down the mall on that Friday night. I do not have details, however and have heard nothing about it on the news.

It was because of the stupid movie (Stomp the yard). The same thing happened on the same night in Trussville Alabama, 10 minutes from Birmingham. Most of the theaters in the down town area here are closed due to high crime. So all the thugs come out to Trussville (just like Douglasville). I'll put the link to the video of what went on here. By the way I grew up off of Hwy 5 in Douglasville but now live in Birmingham. 2-links

Also if you watched the videos the property manager said no gun was fired. I'm not so sure about that. I've talked to several teenagers that heard a gun shot. Wal Mart Supercenter is also located in the same shopping center.

The mall was closed due to a fight. I have no more details on the fight itself except that it did occur in or near the movie theater and it involved high school kids from the Douglasville area schools. I am wondering why there was no news report anywhere about this.

It may not have been as bad as some people are saying, but SOMETHING happened in the mall that night...there was definitely fighting going on and the mall was closed down...the mall doesn't close for anything other than major holidays and tornadoes, and neither was happening that night.

Douglasville, Ga. like every other city in Georgia will fall victim to the flight syndrome. One incident should not dictate the future of Douglasville. Although no one is coming out and saying it, I feel some are hinting that this problem did not exist until a certain ethnicity moved into our neighborhoods and schools. Please prove me wrong??!..Father of two daughters at Holly Springs Elem.,a Douglas County voter and taxpayer.

Arbor place is a get rich quick idea. there is no easy way to access the mall traffic is crazy and has a problem with certain groups think that they own the place. I think it has become a refugee camp for hurricane katrina. And the stores seem to cater to them also. Will not go back.

My family still lives in Douglasville, my parents, siblings and some cousins. There certainly was an incident at Arbor Place Mall that is believed to be gang related. Supposedly there was one or more guns in hand, I do not know whether any were discharged - that has not been confirmed. Supposedly there were arrests of about 5 +/- alleged "gang members". Supposedly stores closed their gates with patrons inside and many hid in the backs of these stores until the 'all clear' was given. I have not seen any of this in any form of media. The information that I received has been second hand from my mother who (1) spoke to my cousin who was at the mall with her child when this supposed incident took place (2) spoke to a family friend who is part of "Douglasvilles Finest". I do not understand or approve of the secrecy involved. I do not believe that it is the fault of the children who are dropped off by their parents on Friday/Saturday nights (this would errupt an entirely different discussion). I do believe that a "certain ethnicity" may play a strong role and that many may indeed be those who relocated due to "Katrina" ... but that problem doesn't lie only in Douglasville.(again, Katrina could be another discussion) The authorities need to stand up and take action. Not just in Douglasville, but in all urban and suburban communities. If you are within a 45 minute to an hours drive outside of the "Perimeter" then you are in danger of an episode of this magnitude errupting in your neighborhood. I do not want to sound racist, but the black citizens of this country have everyone, especially our government, walking on eggshells and tending to their every whimper because the make so much noise in their demands. And now the Hispanic "citizens" (legal and illegal) have realized how it works and are following suit. It is time for ALL citizens to stand up and make some noise and demand a safe community for ourselves and out children.

The problem has exsisted since well before katrina.
Drug/Gang problems for years in middle schools and up. It was just a matter of time. Your just now noticing it. Question is what now. Good luck.

My husband is an officer and he called me the night in question and told me to stay away from the mall due to a lot of police activity and an accident. He couldn't give me all the details, but the incident did occur in the theatres and it was "gang related." I've lived in D'ville for all my life and it is not the same town. As D'ville has grown so has the crime. Drugs and gangs have been here for many years and it is just unfortunate that some stupid movie causes teenagers to act out in such a way.
