Exactly. If you (OP) think Topix is full of trash talkers then you should see them on the streets. People of hinton is a close nit community which means you don't look & don't tell kind of atmosphere. As long as you look the other way & keep your mouth shut you'll be fine. Blow the whistle on one person then you better tuck tail & get the hell out of Dodge!!!

I like Hinton....Moved here about 5 years ago. Quiet little town. Not much going on, butt the community seems to have different events that take place throughout the year. Music festival, Train days, and several other little things that go on. There are a couple of coffee shops. The one on Summers St, The Chessnut Revival is really good.
There is a water slid open in the summer time, A small flea market on the weekends near the pool during the summer time. One stop light...I like that. Sometimes I feel like I live in Mayberry meets The Twilight Zone. The Police officers are nice. A bit backwards but nice. It does seems to be a type of town of Don't ask Don't tell. And look the other way, But what town isn't?

From what I've seen, there are very few people from Hinton with what most of us like to call morals. You know, the things that keep you from being a cheating, lying, untrustworthy, dirtbag. Sounds harsh, I know. But unfortunately,I've had to live with the repercussions of their immorality. So I'm just calling it like I see it. It's a shame but Hinton really is a pit. Yuck.

I might not live in town...but I work in town. I might not be from here but Im raising my children here. I love Summers Co. I love driving along the river of the mornings watching the sun come up...and watching the moon reflect off its current at night. There is so much promise for this little town and I will be one to help it along. I know addiction and the toll it can take on generations of good people who just fall victim to its lies. Raising children to have faith and to believe in themselves...is the only thing that will change the death and decay of HINTON. Im proud to say I am raising my children in Summers Co and they will grow to serve their community to best of their ability. So to all the nah sayers...keep doubting. But one day...one way even if it takes the hard work of ONE woman....HINTON will be great again. Talcott elementary is the greatest school in the country...it has the highest WES TEST scores and beats the national average. The football program for the little ones is the best anywhere. SO be proud...not ashamed of this great place. Pray instead of bitch...itll get you further in life. PROMISE

I love you, One mother! You are living above the fray, which is not always easy but can be done, similar to being in the world but not of the world.

I have read the post on here and have to say that if I were a total outsider then this wouldn't be a town for me but since I was born and raised there then I have to see things a little different. First, I moved from there 25 yrs ago but have consistently returned since my family is all still there. We have made a decision to return to WV but will live in Greenbrier County due to our work. I have to say Hinton was a wonderful, friendly, booming little town years ago...a really great place to live and grow up. There has been a decline of the town over the years which,in my opinion, is largely due to the fact that there have been no incentives to bring jobs to that area, no recreational activities for kids to help keep them off dope, and no physical upkeep on the town itself to attract newcomers to the area. It is very depressing to look at now. People need to ban together and invade 3rd Ave with video cams and if the cops there want to turn their heads then take it up to the next level. People are eager to gripe and fuss but lets do something about it...I'm willing! Until people start showing these druggies who is running the show then the shit isnt stopping...they will wipe Hinton off the map. Another thing is that most people have settled for so long with nothing that they have no self esteem or enthusiasm about themselves! Its sad to see good people work hard and get nowhere. There is drug infestations everywhere but until someone starts standing up for Hinton and gets some money rolling in to revamp the town and push the druggies out then there is not much change in sight. It comes down to either be part of the problem or part of the solution!

Just checking in on What Man! Hopeing all is well with your settling in to the new town. Yes I do believe Talcott is the better school. The environment is more focused on the child and not as over-crowded. I hope you and your family make a wonderful life here. Best Wishes!

If you don't mind a town with one stop light & dope & hookers on every corner. A one stop shopping plaza that hardly has anything worth having. Most people from Hinton ends up going to a nearby Beckley town to do their shopping. Only grocery stores is a save a lot & Krogers. Krogers is higher on just about any item more so than Krogers in neighboring towns because there's no compitition. The police stops you for just about any moving violation they can in order to keep the station open. But, otherwise let the real offenders stand on the corners doing their thing. I left there years ago but still have family there so I'm in the area enough to still know it's a piece of sh*t town!!!
Sad but true. The only the recent drug busts did was spread out the worst areas for a few more blocks.
