Good luck around here. The fishing sucks and that's us about that. U may try sandstone falls. The fishing there is good sometimes. And maybe try at the dam on the park side.
Just curious

I come there every summer and fish. My favorite place is at Sandstone Falls, last steps before the end of the boardwalk. I fish for smallmouth bass but have caught catfish there as well. I use live softshell crawfish for bait. I am not sure what is best to use for catfish. My brother takes a pontoon boat out on the lake above the dam and fishes there. He also fishes at Brooks Falls. Sometimes I fish at Richmond Bottom at the public boat access. The fishing is not as good there but sometimes I am not able to walk far. My friend always had good luck wading up the river into the swift water at Richmond Bottom but be very careful if you are wading. The river is very dangerous to those who do not know the river and where the potholes, current changes, and drop-offs are located.

Apparently you don't fish a lot if you think it sucks. Either that or you just hit the same one or two holes. Behind advanced auto is actually good fishing, but in the middle of the river. Big slobs hold up in there.

I don't fish around Hinton much. I fish on the lake above the dam all the way up to the Va line. There is some good spots for cats but a lot of them u need a boat to get to. Some spots u can fish from the bank. It is just ruff to get to some of them. The soft-shells r startin to come out now and the channels will be hittin them hard. And thin there is always redeyes u can use for the flat heads. If ur wanting small mouth the new river below the dam all the way to the falls is good and the greenbrier is good to. Try a 3" green tube with about a 1/8th oz jig head.

Good luck
