The good people of summers county do not see fit to pass a levy, but seem to think that the best of the best principals are just going to flock to the county to work for a great deal less money than they could make almost anywhere else outside of summers county. I have no problem with Mr. Niswander think he is doing a good job, my advice work with your kids teachers and principals in a postive way to make the school system better, or you could just moan and groan and add to the problem.

What a wonderfully positive post on something that is certain to draw tremendous negativity. I agree! Many who are critical and complain the loudest do little to assist with their child's education. We, too, are a county that won't pass a levy. So we buy the materials and extras needed in the classroom throughout the year. We parents need to work with the school system, instead of against it, if we wish to overcome lack of funding and see improvement in our child's education and the overall morale of faculty and administration.

I've always purchased materials and all of the extra little things that are needed, yet lack funding for.
I would - and have in the past - voted for school levy's because I see how important they are for our children's future. It's a sad testament as to how little the citizens care about our - and I consider every child in the community as 'ours'- education. The levies in the past certainly wouldn't make you destitute and yet they do not pass.
I also have friends and family who are teachers throughout the county and who work in the office/administration area of our local educational system and not one of them has spoken kindly or in agreement with Mr. Niswander.
I've had my own experience with him and know that he has lied about certain events when it was advantageous.
The fact that so many - even those within the system currently - find his methods, his attitude and his demeanor repulsive speaks volumes.
It's a shame that we can't have a Principal of the same caliber as the Middle Schools.
When it comes to the High School I avoid Mr. Niswander as much as possible and offer help and support directly to the teachers. Since I've taken this route it's been a much more pleasant experience this school year.

And this is another positive post on working with the system. When hands are tied, do all you can do to improve the situation. Most often this involves work and not words. Such a shame you have a principal that sounds like a boob (I could think of a better word but don't wish to offend.)! Ours isn't a stellar example of leadership, but he sounds superior to yours. I don't understand why we devalue education by not supporting levies.

Maybe if the principal & the lunch lady would quit having an affair, more productive things would get done at SCHS...

WHAT AN IDIOT!! Find something positive in your life and stop trying to spread vicious rumors. You may be saying this to be funny but some people are stupid enough to believe it. If you must speak negatively of others, start rumors about yourself. Oh, but that wouldn't be nearly as much fun, would it?????

I agree with "my view and not true". You shouldn't say something like that. It could really cause problems in personal and professional lives. By the way, I like Mr. Niswander. I think he is doing a good job.

I don't know anything about him and the lunch lady ,don't really care about that.Howevrer I do agree that it speaks volumes when you have so many staff members, parents ,and students that don't have one nice thing to say about him and do not agree with the way he runs the school.I think the parents need to sit their children down and talk with them, they would be very surprised at some of the things the children would tell them. Then whatever issues they have should be taken up with the board!Maybe then some things would change.

So you're a teacher? Bitch and moan about money, that's all you all do. If it's money you seek, go to college for something else.

Get what you pay for is simply making the point that a *single* levy hasn't passed here in more than a decade. Budgets are getting tighter, programs are getting cut, and when they hire someone new (as in the case of the principal) they don't exactly have an abundance of money to offer an attractive salary to someone that would run the school in a manner that didn't make everyone who works there want to quit.

I have family that goes to school there, and the way he treats his students is appalling. We've even had to go down and threaten to sue because he was harassing a student.(Calling them into the office 3 times a week to accuse them of stealing something with no proof, only gossip.) Even now, when I go down to meet with him, he's NEVER in the building. The way the students tell it, he's there maybe 2 days out of the week. Clearly he's not doing such a bang-up job.

Well, clearly he must have had a reason to call your "little Jr." into the offfice to speak to him. I don't think he would just randomly harass a student. Oh yes, let's sue because a child is NEVER at fault for anything he does. That's what's wrong with this generation today; parents defend their children even when they are in the wrong. Why don't you volunteer to work there if you are so concerned? If you do then you can see for yourself just what a "bang up" job he is doing and you won't have to depend on what you hear from students. Before you can volunteer, however, you must pass a backgroud check--any skeletons in the closet????? I hope it's nothing you could get sued over.

Curious - but how do you know it isn't true? Do you sit down at the office and watch who goes in and out?
You may doubt it but you can't state with any certainty.

You completely ignored that it's been mentioned that there are teachers and other faculty who have said things about his behavior, have verified that they've witnessed his chewing tobacco on school property - in front of children? Or those of us who have witnessed certain things that are appalling? Those of us who have spent years and years volunteering in the school system.

Not everyone believes that "little Jr." can do no wrong. Not everyone is blinded to the wrongs that their children do or are oblivious that there will never be a time when they won't screw up. In one way or another.

By the same token I think that the majority of people (parents, faculty, administration and even children) can attest to the fact that "little" Mr. Niswander is hardly perfect. And to take it one step further it's a shame that he isn't held accountable for certain actions that he's made in the past few years. And likely won't be unless several changes are made.

1. School Board - which people didn't bother fixing in this election
2. Superintendent.

Because until those things are fixed, then nothing will be done. Well, not until/unless he's caught straight out by someone of higher authority than our county.

I'm not holding my breath and until mine are all graduated out I'll continue doing as I said; offering up my services and volunteering directly with their teachers.

Oh, by the way, for myself - I've had a background check done a few times, for volunteer/work purposes.=)

Anyone notice how the good people of Mercer County voted concerning their levy. They approved it in a landslide!!! And no a levy is not passed to just give teachers more money. The kids are the future of Summers County and I really feel people need to get positive and start working with the school system. Summers County schools are filled with hard working teachers who really care about the kids. Like any profession their are I am sure a few rotton apples but for the most part hard working dedicated professional people. Many were born and raised in Summers County. If your not part of the solution you are part of the problem

Not true: The point of harassment was him calling someone into the office every 3 days based on the gossip of other students. I wasn't trying to imply that my family member could do no wrong. My words (allow for paraphrasing) were "Involve the police, or leave her alone." Someone stealing something is a matter for the police, not the principal. Alas, the legal system doesn't consider gossip a reliable source of information, and neither should people in positions of power.

If the police had gotten involved and they found something to indicate her, fine. However, after that statement, he stopped calling her into his office at all, and the police were never contacted.

I've volunteered at a number of schools, and I can pass a background check without a 2nd though. Then again, this isn't about me at all, it's about a principle who *seems* to be despised by virutally everyone working under him, and who DOES chew snuff on school grounds,(Illegal, btw), and *seems* to be entirely incapable as an administrator.

Instead of sitting behind a computer moaning and groaning, why don't you use that energy and offer to help fix the problems? No you probably wouldn't want to do that because then you wouldn't have anything to complain about. Not to worry, just a few more weeks and your harassed "little girl" will be out of that horrible place and you can find someone else to talk about. Just so you know, I have a child attending there as well and he has never been harassed by anyone.
