Can anyone tell me , why a couple of people selling their excess produce in Hinton is forced to buy a business license ? Seems there was a city council meeting about it , then MISS CLEO paid a visit to the sellers . She reported to the policeman that the gentleman was rude to her . The policeman then came and talked with them . The gentleman declared he was not rude , but had been allowed to sell excess produce for years with no complaints . Do you think the city is so hard up for 15.00 ( price of license)? Most folks are happy to see some fresh produce . Could it be that the powers that be are going along with a certain local merchant.I do understand that a business is required to have a license , but does selling a few vegetables and fruits constitute a business? Just asking..don't jump off the "deep end" on this one , I am just curious ... May God bless Hinton , politicians and all :)

Just park over on the bypass and sell your produce, no license or fee needed and just as good a location to sell!

It's kind of simple if you have ever had to buy one.

Ever try to get a permit to sell on train days ?The powers that be judge what you can sell or , indeed , if you can sell at all .Pretty well all tied up by the political powers ... I don't think the sellers made an issue of this as there were two trucks there yesterday. I bought some great vegetables. I was not thinking the sellers made much of it . They are hard working ,law abiding folks , but something seems wrong to me when these folks work to earn their way while others are paid for not even working in the first place . I was in no way representing the sellers in my post . Guess that is just the way it is and probably will not change .So again I say , god bless Hinton even the politicians :)

what about the horse trading that goes on in front of the post office tying up 2-3 parking spots and never putting money in the meters or no handicap placard. there are 4-5 men that sit in their cars and buy and sell knives, guns and even chickens. i just know that "my way" will make a comment that he has been in business for 60 years and has never seen any sort of horse trading going on but beleive me. i have seen it several times. why not make those lazy, non working, check drawing jerks get permits. what about the druggies selling their goods? should they be made to buy a permit? no, cleo will just give the honest worker a hard time and make them buy a permit and i hope she did give a reciept to them. of course i know who's idea these permits are associated with. anyway, as usual, cleo giving the working man a hard time. just say "NO, to CLEO"

If you work here then your employer might want to know how you have so much time to poke your nose into the business of this fare city, and if you are on welfare, I know why you think the way you do. It sounds more like "hintonians way or the highway".I have not made one complaint about what the city officials are or are not doing. Of course you have made it clear that you have your nose so far up one of the councelmans butt that he won't need a colenoscopy for 100 yrs. shame on you. calling your self a hintonian and not supporting those in office. shame on you.

Correct, a non issue, just the produce fee situation very poorly put forth unprofessionally by the Mayor in person last Saturday at Magic Mart! There were two Veggie trucks Tuesday, it seems one vendor had to buy a seller license past Saturday per Mayor Cleo, and the other truck person has not yet been asked to get one...?

why would anyone that sells produce on occasion have to have a permit? i thought that was self employment. i will buy from them if i can. where are they at? it has to be cheaper than the two places we have to choose form around here. just wondering also if the farmers market on temple, do they all have to have permits? what about when the school hosts car washes? or bake sales? i know there are street vendor permits for sale at cleos house but give me a break.
