Study Says West Virginians have Hardest Time Getting Good Night's Sleep; Hawaiians Most Well Rested

Sleepless in Seattle? Hardly. West Virginia is where people are really staying awake, according to the first government study to monitor state-by-state differences in sleeplessness.

West Virginians' lack of sleep was about double the national rate, perhaps a side effect of health problems such as obesity, experts said.

Nearly 1 in 5 West Virginians said they did not get a single good night's sleep in the previous month. The national average was about 1 in 10, according to a federal health survey conducted last year and released Thursday.

Tennessee, Kentucky and Oklahoma also were notably above average in their reported lack of sleep. In contrast, North Dakota had fewer problems sleeping, with only 1 in 13 reporting that degree of sleeplessness.

Health officials do not know the exact reasons for the differences.

I really suspect there is a lot of sleeplessness everywhere.One of biggest reasons is that people are so caught up in their jobs,problems and other aspects of their lives they just cannot turn everything off and relax and fall asleep. i myself find myself tossing and turning sometimes late at night but I gave halth issues coupled with being a senior citizen so there you are. I meant to say health issuses LOL LOL anyway if we did't try to cram too much into our lives maybe things would be better. Naturally diet,lack of exercise are other factors that come into play here.......

Because of my Husbands illness-I HAVE to be up with him at least every 3 hrs. so I haven't had a good nights sleep since April---neither has he--Before that I could sleep 8 hrs easily--Things are suppose to get better.I can't wait would be so nice to lie in bed until WE wanted to get up.
