I'm a law abiding citizen, that has done NOTHING wrong! He can't say the same. I'm not going anywhere. I've lived in Hinton all my life. He should be the one that's run out of town, at the very least. If it's proven he did rape that woman, then his ass needs to be thrown in jail with the other sexual predators.
If Blankenship had made it known before the election that he'd put someone with that kind of background in charge of our safety, I guarentee you we'd have a different mayor right now. We shouldn't have to drive and live in fear of being raped just because someone is (ahem) "seeing" someone's daughter!

CHARLESTON, W.Va.-- July 17, 2010 - West Virginia State Police didn't tell Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Plants that a former trooper likely committed a crime, according to court documents provided to the Gazette-Mail.

State Police say in the documents that former trooper Derek Snavely falsified his duty log -- a fact they left out of their criminal investigation report to Plants' office. A Charleston woman had accused Snavely of forcing her to have sex with him.

Based on the report, Plants decided not to prosecute Snavely. The woman has since sued Snavely and the State Police.

Plants said that if State Police knew Snavely -- who is now the police chief in Hinton -- had falsified his duty log, it should have been included in the case file.

"I don't know that file. I'll have to take your word on it," he said. "What's important here is ... if that [falsified document] exists, that is something that we should have been made aware of. It should have been included in the report that I received."

The 14-page Criminal Investigation Report, prepared by State Police 1st Lt. L.A. Bailes for Plants' office, makes no mention of a duty log, let alone of it being falsified. The log is also not listed in the list of exhibits attached to the report.

But State Police, in response to a series of questions from the woman's lawyer, Mike Clifford, said Snavely clearly altered his duty log:

"A copy of Defendant Snavely's duty log has previously been disclosed (to Clifford). Notwithstanding, it is apparent that he falsified that log from the time that he met with Plaintiff until the end of his shift. Upon information and belief, the actions represented prior to Defendant Snavely's involvement with Plaintiff are accurate."

Sgt. Michael Baylous, spokesman for the State Police, said he could not talk about the Snavely case......

Kanawha County prosecutors declined to bring charges against Snavely after reviewing the evidence presented to them, assistant Kanawha County prosecutor Dan Holstein has said. Two assistant prosecutors independently reviewed the case and agreed that there was no prosecutable offense, Holstein said.......

It was all a cover up. The State Police only gave the PAs what they wanted them to have, not what would have proved he was guilty.
The State Police didn't tell about the faudulant duty log to the PA and now he's trying to cover his butt.

There's more to this story and Hinton should have waited for the outcome before it hired Snavely even as a patrolman.

Your intelligence just keeps shining through!
Here's this awesome thing about this wonderful county we live in - we get to say what we think, we get to complain, we get to disagree with stuff.

I have lived here for most of my life, my children still attend schools here and my entire family all the way from my grandparents down to my little cousins are here. Here I will remain until I choose not to anymore.

However if you're sick of us doing all this "b!tching" (LOL) about Snavely then you're more than welcome to pack up your "sh!t" (LOL) and leave Hinton. Or, just this site... though this thread may be good enough for ya. Either way!

Black eye in this beautiful place I call home. Law enforcement, period, here is corrupt. Wish we could wipe the slate clean and start anew with legit law enforcement.

I know he's not accused (yet) by anyone in Hinton, but there is still a civil case pending in Charleston against him. The prosecutors in Charleston decided not to file charges because there wasn't enough evidence. Later, they found out that the State Police did not turn over all of the evidence against him, including his falsified duty log, nor did they think they needed to let them know that is was in fact falsified..

(Plllease) You are basing your comments on passed police officers and their actions and snavely. regardless of his past snavely has done an alright job as a police officer but what can you honestly say about the rest of hinton's city officers. what do you actually know about them? and what have they personally done to you? its a people with a mouth like yours that gives this place a bad name. its the rumor mill and its never correct its always blown out of proportion to make it more exciting.
