1 I consider myself an educated person and in being one I want to make an informed vote. I take my vote as an American not only a right by the constitution but something that shouldn't be taken lightly. So having said that, I asked on the other thread about why Shaver should have my vote, as at this point I am undecided and am doing my best to become an informed voter. I'm desperate to find qualifications about Mr. Shaver that would make him a good sheriff. It was stated in this thread that he has done good works as a public servant, what were they? Exactly what makes Mr. Shaver the better candidate? I mean just because other's support him doesn't make me a sheeple.(sheeple: one that blindly follows the crowd) I agree Summers County is a great place to live. It's exactly why I moved here. Having said that, I've lived here for two years and pretty much know all the backroads and such of the county but it certainly doesn't make me qualified to be sheriff. It was noted that Mr. Shaver has served the public, can someone please tell me how? I don't say this in a demeaning manor, I simply take my vote seriously and am uncomfortable just voting willy nilly. I had been brought up to believe that the constitution meant that while we are given the right to vote, with that comes responsibility. Meaning making my vote count and voting what I believe to be making the best choice for not only myself but for my neighbors as well. I'm open to either candidate, I just want to be sure I have all the facts and well to be honest, while agree knowing and appreciating the history of our county, doesn't mean that automatically makes you the best candidate. Currently there are tons of robberies happening. I venture to guess that current Sheriff has intimate knowledge of the roads and families, though it hasn't stopped them from happening. What I want to know as a voter is how exactly is Mr. Shaver or Mr. Dolphin equipped with experience and knowledge to stop it from happening. It's blatantly obvious that knowing roads or family names isn't the answer. How will either person stop drugs from entering our schools? While I respect Mr. Shaver, the cynic in me doubts that knowing a "Meadows from a Meador" is going to stop that. Though if someone could reassure me and help me choose a candidate it would be most appreciated. |

1 I couldn't agree with you more, knowing all the "back areas" is how he has adopted his reputation and character, likewise, alot of parents and grandparents, and the people KNOW HIM also. Being educated and a public servant come with the office, and how you maintain that office. I believe if you read the job description of Sheriff, you will find that it deals mainly with county taxes. He has worked "different areas" just can't seem to get situated. Promised to fulfill term as Magistrate (left), back and forth on railroad (not committed), currently city judge (apparently not satisfied there either), but considering "family" is already involved with city, guess they won't be satisfied till they run the county as well, and certainly he has teachers votes considering "family" make up alot of school system as well, and don't forget, he only won the democrat nomination by a "family" vote, and yes his signs do look good, but looks don't get votes. Time for a new face, and real change to make a difference, VOTE DOLPHIN! |

"He is currently serving as city judge in Hinton while also continuing on CSX"
So does he still intend to continue working both positions if elected? I mean it would seem to me that being Sheriff would be a full time job. Out of curiosity is the city judge an elected position or an appointed one? If it's appointed who makes that decision? |
