Summers judge reduces woman’s bond
By Taylor Kuykendall
Register-Herald Reporter The Register-Herald Wed Dec 01, 2010, 12:05 AM EST

BECKLEY — A Summers County circuit court judge has lowered a $500,000 bond for a woman charged with the death of her 18-month-old daughter.

The bond for Cristen Lynn Hurley, 24, was reduced to $75,000 Monday by Judge Robert Irons. Hurley is charged with child abuse resulting in injury and child neglect resulting in death. Her live-in boyfriend, James R.L. Meadows, 19, was arrested as well and charged with murder and death by a custodian.

Both were arrested in the Hilldale area of Summers County following the death of 18-month-old Isabella Danielle Hurley.

The child was declared brain dead after EMS responded to the couple’s home on Nov. 4.

Isabella was taken to the Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hinton and then transferred to Women and Children’s Hospital in Charleston.

She was declared brain dead shortly after and removed from life support.

According to police reports, Meadows was home alone with the child when the injuries were first reported.

Meadows initial statements, that the child fell off a couch and bed several times were not consistent with the medical examiner’s autopsy report.

This is wrong. I can't believe any Judge would reduce bond that much in a case where the child was MURDERED. This sends a bad message to those out there abusing their children right now. I am very saddened by this.

Yes--It is very wrong-but very predictable--Our cildren are being killed every day and this is what happens-I still firmly believe that woman is just as guilty--maybe more than the man that she left him with!I predict neither of them will get as much as 5 years.I just don't understand.

don't worry, when they are convicted and sent to prison they will be dealt with. HARSHLY.
there are two things convicts can't stand. child abusers and old people abusers.
all they have to do is be in the wrong place at the wrong time and they will be beaten to death or shanked.

I hate to see they lowered it because I don't think she deserved it but, to me $75,000 is still a lot of money to me, anyway.. And it probably is to her, but I doubt she will find anybody that will go her bail.. So, she will probably still end up staying in there..

I think since it's 75,000 then they have to put up 10% of that in collateral, money etc. but it's up to the bail bondsmen and since she is from a low income family I doubt very highly any of them would be able to come up with the money, I don't think her family would do it anyway, to hard to pay it out and lose if she'd skip town. Only thing else I'll say is, if anyone gets her out then they to are like her, trash!

It depends on if it is a CASH only bond. If so then she would have to come up with the whole 75,000. Lets hope that is the case.

she made bond people she her parents own their trailer and alls you have to have is callateral and that would be enough and the only reason why they set bond is so if you run after released then you have to pay it all and they can repo anything you used as callateral

I am outrated at the fact that her bail was lowered any Judge in their RIGHT MIND should know better than to do this...HE IS AN ELECTED OFFICIAL MAYBE WE THE PEOPLE OF SUMMERS COUNTY SHOULD REMEMBER THIS NEXT ELECTION AND VOTE HIS SORRY ASS OUT!!!! I wish they wouldn't have been put in solitary put them in general population with the rest of the prisoners then they would have got what they deserved...karma's a bitch...and I hope they get what they deserve...killing a beautiful baby if they didn't want it they should have put it up for adoption!
