IT'S A SHAME THAT SO MUCH RESOURCES HAS BEEN SPENT ON CASINOS SO FAR AND NOT ON PRESERVING THE WICHITA LANGUAGE. I HOPE THAT ATLEAST SOME OF THE REVENUES FROM THE GAMBLING WILL BE SPENT ON WORTHWHILE THINGS LIKE THAT. MY GRANDMA SPOKE FLUENT WICHITA AND I AM FEEL GREAT SADNESS THAT CASINOS HAD A HIGHER PRIORITY THAN THE PRESERVATION OF THE TRIBAL LANGUAGE.

They do have language classes that were geared towards children, and adults were welcome to sit in and participate also. Guess how many showed up? Its not that there's nothing being done towards language preservation, its the lack of participation.

Thats really ashame, but what about a program such as the one by the colo. prof. that atleast documents in text and video the elders and language, but done by the tribe. Has the tribe done anything to try and preserve the Wichita language and culture?

THERE WAS PROBABLY NO PARTICIPATION BECAUSE THE ADULTS WERE AT A CASINO! This is actually a finding from a study done here in MT. One of the factors contributing to the loss of native language ,is that instead of being at home teaching the children their natve tongue the adults were spending that time away, gambling in a casino.

Not all adults go to the Casino. Believe it or not, there just some tribal members that don't want to go to their Tribes unless they are receiving something in return.

Well I know some elders that do not speak in our native language, and I'm sure its not because their parents were at the Casino, they lived here long before the Casinos were here.
