Pennies from tourists?

Once again, Brattleboro is considering adding a 1 percent local option tax on top of the state's current 6 percent sales tax.

I seldom go downtown at all anymore. The parking fees alone keep me away. My money that gets spent in Brattleboro gets spent outside the town center, and adding "just a penny" in additional taxes will drive me further out.

PS I work in hospitality, and if you think that the extra 1% meals and use tax isn't noticed by people you are wrong. The difference between 9% and 10% may seem logically "negligible" but the psychological impact of 10% is significant. 10 is a nice fat round number that people can relate to, and believe me they have something to say about it.

OH FRAN I was looking forward to seeing you in the big city. when we go to brat we have reserved parking and free all day so the change or the change doesn't effect me and the vending machine in the court lobby takes bills if I had pockets
