York Tavern

That great "Joint" is torn down and guess new and improved York being build - why and guess new owners trying to make a few extra bucks, but it sure won't be the same.

Never did here why and how??

Dupage inspectors said they needed to bring the kitchen up to current code. In fixing the kitchen everyone else jumped in and required updates to the fire and handicap codes. One thing led to another and they baiscally had to tear the whole thing down and rebuild.

Stopped in last Saturday. Interior about the same seating though the bar has a few more stools. It was so crowded we left but did notice, infortunately, that the burgers looked totally different from those which I have gilped down during the past 50 years. Thick yuppie buns, an odd looking patty, and much larger that to "oldies". Doesn't seem like a place that will remain on my lunch list. Too bad.

Ate lunch at the York. What a disappointment! Limited seating, burgers that were nothing like the old, delicious ones, fries with no taste, noisy, and the friendly waitress is gone. The York is off my list!

Burgers are bigger, but just as flavorful! Very good chili as well. Atmosphere is rustic and sunny-excellent job!

Burgers are still ok, I think they cleaned all the old grease off the grill or something. Nice place overall.

I don't know about this old "friendly waitress that is now gone." They have the 2 Sue's working there and they're both absolutley gorgeous and a ton of fun. Great Bloody Mary's and the tap beer selection is nice. I would avoid the calamari, however. The new owner might want to try an order and see what he honestly thinks.

Marla, one of the Bartenders might want to quit being so unpleasant to be around. Marla always seems to have attitude and leaves us with an impression that she'd really be somewhere else rather than working at the York Tavern. When we walk in and see her behind the bar, we have one drink and leave to go somewhere with a more friendly bartender that doesn't think she's "All That" like Marla does. The girl "Anna?" from Czech is very nice. Marla is a whole different story. Ask anyone that goes there.

Marla's got a great set of buns too. She's really nice, just have to get to know her. New menu rocks!!!!! I hear pizza is starting in a few weeks.

Used to be you could get a great burger solo and then have a cup of chili with it. Now they force you to also pay for and take fries. My one beef with the old York is that they had bad wine. The new York makes you buy a split of over priced wine for $24.00. We went twice to the new place but they will lose our business from now on we will take a pass and go to County House, etc. These other places have great wines for 5-7 a glass.
